What Caregivers are Learning:
Aphasia Speech Therapy
Hi Teaching of Talking Friend:

As many of you know we are traveling around the country sharing The Teaching of Talking, giving lectures and visiting with people who are interested in learning how to stimulate speech and language with their loved ones at home who have aphasia or developmental disabilities.

Today I visited with a couple outside of Phoenix. His wife had a stroke and and was interested in learning about how to stimulate speech and language at home. We visited with his wife for an hour and he was amazed at what she was capable of saying and how she could converse if the proper words were stimulated, and if she was spoken to slowly, simply, and about things that were important and relevant. He thought speech therapy was about "kill and drill," and practicing phrases that were not even associated to what was happening in the moment. By the end of the session he had a new appreciation for speech therapy, and ways to stimulate his wife to talk; and having a fun time doing it! He also realized she had alot to say, if given the chance and in a way that was simple and easy.

We shall be leaving Phoenix next week and heading North towards Flagstaff Arizona, Grand Canyon and then on to Las Vegas where we will be presenting lectures along the way.  If you are interested in a lecture or meeting with us or scheduling a personal visit, please let me know at [email protected]
We shall then be heading up into Utah and Wyoming and stopping along the way to share the Teaching of Talking and to see this beautiful country.  Please do not hesitate to contact me further and please share this post.

Best,

Moshe Mark
