When Forgiveness is the Only Option

After years of chasing healing and hoping for relief, there was only one option left on the table...forgiveness. I was tired of chasing. I had avoided dealing with everything for many years and it came down to this...was I willing to continue avoiding the hurt and pain I felt in order to be right or would I finally choose myself?
Most of you know I chose myself. However, I was not prepared for what happened next. With forgiveness the only option left on the table, I just imagined him in front of me. I screamed a little, gave him the proverbial anger business, and said, "I don't know why you did what you did, but I hope you can find some peace in your life somewhere along the way. What you did was totally screwed up and it hurt a lot of people, but
I forgive you...I forgive you completely. I wish you well. Be gone!"
And then...it was like a 300 lb weight leaped off my chest almost instantly. I somehow noticed that I had been so heavy with this weight on me, I almost didn't know how to act without it. And yet, it felt extremely good and joyous to be without it now. It dawned on me in that moment that I had carried my pain for 20 years.
That's the power of forgiveness...total and complete freedom in an instant. Forgiveness is not something you do for someone else. You aren't letting them off the hook for their crimes. God takes care of that anyway. You're not saying, "I absolve you of what you did."
You are saying in effect, "I choose myself over you taking up space in my mind and my heart any longer. I'm choosing myself because I need to get rid of the draining energy it takes to resent you. I'm choosing myself now over holding you accountable. I give that to God to deal with when He sees fit. I'm choosing ME! Thank you! Amen!"
It's incredible when you give yourself permission to give and accept forgiveness. When a person is ready, letting go of a resentment large or small brings immediately and everlasting relief.
I don't think I'll ever forget that moment of release. It was so transformative to the quality of my life. It changed me for the better and healed me physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
Thank God for little miracles just when you need them. Miracles are waiting for you too.

I can't guarantee that a 300 lb weight will be lifted off of you. Most people, however, get the relief they are looking for when they go for it and forgive what has been troubling them for years.

This prayer is read aloud by everyone at the end of every Forgiveness in Christ Experience Workshop. I'm sharing it with you today with the hope that you and your family have a peaceful and prosperous year in 2019.
The Forgiveness Prayer
Gracious God, grant me the willingness to end my resentment today and come back into your unconditional love.
Give me the courage to speak my truth just as I have felt it, knowing You do not fault me for feeling the way I do.
Lord, grant me the strength to bless them through your kindness and mercy.
Help me to open to your loving presence as I see, sense, and feel your divine light that nourishes me from head to toe.
O Holy Creator, usher this gentle light into my being and wash away the remnants of my resentment. I now give it all to you.
Bring thoughts of gratitude and peace into my mind and my heart.
Assist me in sending your loving light and love to those who have hurt me, as a sign to wish them well on their journey through life.
Help me to see the good in them and to accept the good in me too.
Through Your Never Ending Love, I forgive them for their part and forgive myself for mine.
I release them to be them and I release me from them.
Master, You see all things and I trust in You.
I ask this in the name of all that’s good and renewed through Your Love.
Amen.
