  The Anne Report

The Anne Report

Dear ,

We had our grandsons for the weekend. We took them to Givhans Ferry State Park on Saturday, and they had a very dirty, everything got wet, run-down-the-forest-trails kind of time. Thomas discovered a meandering brook that could be called a waterfall, if we stretched the truth. Their fascination with water is boundless, thus the soaking wet clothes. “I couldn’t help it. I just fell in.” Shoes and all, of course! The Edisto River runs through the park and there’s a sandy beach which provided the opportunity to build sand forts, assemble rock structures, and to get even wetter. To finish off the day, the boys took a bath. We only have one tub. I improvised by putting Reynolds in a storage container, filled with water, in our shower, while Thomas took a bath in the bathtub. That was a big hit.

Sunday we watched a dragon movie (Thomas is obsessed with dragons), along with several YouTube videos about the ten weirdest animals on earth, the 15 most dangerous beaches, and videos of contemporary dinosaurs. Yes, we believe that! The video asks, “Are dinosaurs extinct or did they just get better at hiding from humans?” The very informative video (tongue in cheek) about the most dangerous beaches, warned us against Copacabana, a beach in South America. It is lauded as the most dangerous because of its crime. “Never leave anything on the beach to go swimming. Thieves will take anything.” Reynolds chimes in: “That means you better not leave your stuffed animals alone on the beach!” Innocence. I love it. Oddly enough, I’ve been to three of the 15 beaches.

This December 21st completes the 10th year of sending out the EZ Secret Newsletter. I have loved doing the newsletter. It has pushed me to birth thoughts I didn’t even know were there and to keep my imagination in flight. Putting the newsletter out for ten years is a time for celebration. Now is the perfect time to start a new project, even if the project is just to garden more. The last weekly issue will be December 21st. That means there are five more weekly issues to go, after this issue. Read up folks; the time is nigh. Yes, this might be a relief for you, because reading a weekly newsletter is a formidable task, and, as life speeds by, Tuesdays seem to come daily. You can expect to hear from me on an irregular basis. That means when the notion strikes me. Thank you to all the loyal readers for the support you offered me during the past ten years. We are not finished yet, but I do expect, when I lighten my workload, that my life will be EZier and EZier.

Reconsidering the Value of the Past

I have some clothes pins. They were my mother’s. Even though they are 80 years old, they are steadfast and sturdy. I have some newer ones too, some I purchased more than 25 years ago. Thinking back, I wonder why I bought them. Maybe I wanted new ones that were “pretty.” The newer ones easily come off the middle spring and I constantly must put them back together. Mom’s clothes pins are not “pretty”; they bear the stains of the past. The browning wood is a testament to clothes hanging outside in the rain, to clothes drinking in the fresh air, and to mom’s body oils handling them time and time again. In the 30 years I’ve had them, they’ve fastened the chip bags, dog food bags, and mated two sides of things that just needed to be together. Clothes pins today are usually made of plastic. They are pretty, but, in our haste to improve things, or make them cheaper, we have lost much of the craft and creativity from our past. Now, it is against many homeowners’ association ordinances to have outside clotheslines. No more sheets that smell like magic meadows. The freshness we get is from a fabric softener. Many of those are lethal and filled with toxins, but heaven forbid we have clothes hanging outside!

I’ve been watching a YouTube channel, Ghost Town Living, about a man who bought a ghost town, Cerro Gordo, in California. He lives there full time. His goal is to keep its history alive and to create a place where people can go to relax and refresh. The center piece of the town was a lovely old hotel. Last year, the hotel, along with a residence and an icehouse, burned down. This young man is determined to rebuild the hotel, as he continues to explore the sprawling acreage and uncover the treasures of past living. The ongoing biggest challenge is to get water to the town and the other challenge was to get concrete to pour the foundation. Through some miracle he was able to get enough concrete mix and water up thousands of feet to pour the foundation. This young man is dedicated to his town.

I think we feel the same. He reveres his town and its past and I revere my mama’s clothes pins. I have the original stained bag that mama used for her clothes pins. When we moved into our new home, my daughter looked at the bag and goes, “What is this? Let’s toss it!” Of course, I told her the bag was a priceless antique, which it is to me, but I was not able to convey the magic of the clothes pin bag and its contents.

There is something grounding about putting ourselves in the past, about luxuriating in the presence and essence of an old piece of furniture, an old house, a ghost town, or even a clothes pin – not living in the past but reliving the past in the present, letting the visions, the ideas, and the dreams of the past move through us like informative ghosts, ghosts that make us belong to a continuum of life, not just a few short 80 years. Is this wishful thinking or my made-up story that allows me to bask in the presence of an old clothes pin? Maybe not.

Pan-psychism says that everything has mind, but Idealism says that everything is mind. This is a powerful but radical concept, that I’m still pondering, but if it is true, it might explain why some people are comforted by older things or maybe just things in general. I have a friend who bought a teal-colored bath towel. She loves to walk in her bathroom, just to see the towel. It comforts her. Idealism says things are not real of themselves; they are representations of the Source, of a transpersonal mind that intelligently out pictures as matter. That means my clothes pin is as much Source as a diamond or a milkshake. Everything is a representation of the Mind, the Source. So, the next time anyone tells you to throw out your old cutting board or paring knife – you know, the beat-up ones you love – you can tell them that they are religious icons! Isn’t it great to ponder things in a new way? Yep, and when we can look at everything as one Mind, it cuts out much of our mental riffraff, and I suspect it makes our lives EZier and EZier.

Join Dr. Money’s Facebook Group

This group is a place to post uplifting affirmations and thoughts about prosperity and abundant living. Let’s create a right relationship with money so that we feel comfortable about money. Let’s use money as it’s meant to be used, and not as a way to accumulate power or to fill a void. We don’t need money to buy more stuff. We need it to create a world that works for everyone. We want to cast off old beliefs of lack and reclaim our natural state of abundance. Anne, AKA Dr. Money, posts a nightly goodnight video for the prosperity team, and everyone who watches those videos becomes a part of the prosperity team.
