  The Anne Report

The Anne Report

Dear ,

We saw our grandchildren, Thomas and Reynolds, on Sunday. As we road to the park, Thomas pointed out a house that was painted blue, with dark red and white trim. He remarked, “That is unusual: a blue, white, and red house. You don’t see many of that species.” Then he asked, “Do you want to hear a how houses speak?” I replied, “Yes.” “Okay. Listen. I am going to speak house-ese.” Then there is silence. Everyone laughs. He says, “You got it. Houses don’t talk!” We enjoyed being at the park under the bridge on Sunday. Here are the boys, picking American Beauty berries, as they prepare for a berry fight.

This has been a sad few days. My 21-year-old nephew passed away Sunday the 5th. It was unexpected. My daughter, Elizabeth, and I will attend the funeral in Monroe, GA on Saturday. The death of one so young is always hard to bear. And that’s it for the Anne Report.

Thought Blessings - Thought Curses

Thoughts are unpredictable. They pop up like corks in a lake and lead us from mood to mood. Thoughts consist of energy and information. Some thoughts are conscious; some thoughts are preverbal: and some thoughts are nonverbal. Preverbal thoughts formed before we knew language. Even though they are not attached to words, they can deeply affect us, perhaps even more than thoughts that have words. We also have thoughts that synthesize information and emerge as feelings without words. They are nonverbal. These are feeling thoughts.

Thoughts can control us; we can control thoughts; and we can transcend them. Thoughts are the predominant cause of suffering. Thoughts pull us in many directions. They can be petty, manipulative, or gaudy, but their least attractive characteristic is that they are repetitive. They beg us for attention, reminding us of useless information and hammering us into rage, boredom, sadness, and fear.

We can describe ourselves as unconscious when our thoughts go unchecked and determine our outlook on life. This doesn’t mean we pass out. The term “unconscious,” when used in spiritual circles, means that we are unaware of what we think and feel.

The first step out of unconsciousness is referred to as waking up. When we “wake up,” we “go conscious.” Waking up is a phase in the process of enlightenment, and it involves being aware of our thoughts and feelings. When we wake up, we move from reactivity to creativity. This is often a shocking experience, because we have so many life-denying thoughts. In this phrase, we see our brilliance and power, but they emerge hand in hand with petty thoughts, revenge thoughts, self-criticism, and crass thoughts about others.

We can use our awareness to pull ourselves up or put ourselves down. How can we keep ourselves from being dragged down by such unloving material? The following suggestions offer mind taming ideas.

  1. Watch our thoughts with loving awareness. Some call this the witness position. We can switch from disapproving of our thoughts to letting them be. This is a step in the realization that we are not our thoughts nor are we our minds. What we call our mind is actually our thought process, but between thoughts, lie brief, thoughtless moments of stillness. When we watch the mind, we find we still exist, even when there is no thought or feeling present. When I am with someone and I have a critical thought about them, I can respond internally, “I am such a bad person.” I am also free to watch the thought and say lovingly to myself, “That’s just what the mind does. I am not what I think. I am a spiritual being, regardless of any thought or feeling I might have.”
  2. We can purposely place good thoughts in our minds. This action is called “affirmative thinking.” Affirmative thoughts are seeds in our mind that, when nurtured, grow into fruits of well-being. The following affirmative thoughts come from my book, Words Make a Difference.
  3. I am an open-minded person.
  4. I don’t believe all my thoughts; I just watch them pass through my mind.
  5. My mind is free from limiting, harmful thoughts and beliefs.
  6. I am safe and sane.
  7. My mind is bigger than its conditioning; therefore, I am freer than I think.
  8. My mind contains sensitive data that can harm me, when taken seriously.
  9. I am aware of the sinister parts of my mind, and I don’t have to take its information seriously.
  10. I am no longer frightened by my mind.
  11. I have a brilliant mind.
  12. My mind taps into expansive states of consciousness.
  13. My mind is a reservoir of joy and happiness.
  14. My mind is quick and nimble.
  15. My mind is open to my highest good.
  16. My mind is brimming with all things necessary to live an abundant life.

We can tend to our minds as one tends to a garden. Mind maintenance usually includes meditation, an optimistic, trusting attitude, conscious breath work, prayer, and taking care with the material we feed our minds.

When we care for our minds, our minds learn to slow their frantic pace. At this point we have the ability to surrender our word thoughts and feeling thoughts to the Great Stillness. The more we can let go and not know, the EZier our lives become. There is a Source that beckons, and from that Source, Stillness emerges. Stillness births creative, soft, kind, artistic, compassionate, and comforting thoughts. Mending and maintaining our minds moves us from Mego (me+ego) to Amigo (friend.) We move from the aspect of mind that relives our brokenness to the aspect of mind where thoughts come from the purity of being. It seems like a long journey, from the outer world, into the inner world of love and kindness, but it is a journey worthy of pursuit, and when we consciously choose this path, we always find that our lives become EZier and EZier.

Click to learn about Anne's newest book, The Living Book.

Suppose someone told you that you could change your life radically, for the better, if you spent just three minutes a day doing inner work? Would you believe it? Maybe not, but wouldn't it be worth an investment of three minutes a day to try it?

The Living Book offers just this. Devote three minutes a day to this process and your life will become a living testimony to the seed principle. A tiny seed can grow into a mighty tree, but it must be planted. Plant your daily seed for three short minutes and notice both subtle and miraculous changes in your life. In addition to the daily practice, one can use the process when they are stumped or afraid or angry. This process transforms anger into love. When we plant seeds of light into our thoughts and emotional bodies, we move into higher frequencies of well-being.

The Living Book, by Anne Sermons Gillis. Paperback $4.95 plus $3.00 shipping. PDF Download $0.99. Kindle Book $2.99.

Join Dr. Money’s Facebook Group

This group is a place to post uplifting affirmations and thoughts about prosperity and abundant living. Let’s create a right relationship with money so that we feel comfortable about money. Let’s use money as it’s meant to be used, and not as a way to accumulate power or to fill a void. We don’t need money to buy more stuff. We need it to create a world that works for everyone. We want to cast off old beliefs of lack and reclaim our natural state of abundance. Anne, AKA Dr. Money, posts a nightly goodnight video for the prosperity team, and everyone who watches those videos becomes a part of the prosperity team.
