Chris's routine dental appointment suddenly wasn’t!.
“The dentist gave me a shot of Novocaine, but this time it increased my heart rate so much that I became frightened.
The assistant held my hand and the vet said, “I have the answer” and left the room. She arrived back with the tiniest orange kitten. She put the fur ball on my shoulder and announced, as if it was normal to be
handed a kitten at the dental office, ‘His name is Ellis’. It felt like a paws-itive sign. My best friend, had recently passed and her father’s name is also Ellis, so it was comforting.”
The dentist said, “I’m a foster parent for the local shelter and have his mother and sister to socialize the three of them. He’s been giving his mother and sister trouble all day.
The dentist then tilted Chris’s chair back, along with Ellis and disappeared.
Twenty minutes later the dentist reemerged and had to wake both Ellis and her human patient up.
Upon seeing the Doctor, Chris said, “I guess I’ve been adopted.”
The dentist explained that all interested paw-tential adopters need to put a reservation in at the shelter for Ellis and they will notify you when he is ready for adoption. He needs to be medically checked, micro chipped, neutered and inoculated. She added the caveat that “Once they contact you have
48 hours to pick him up.”
Today, Ellis is six years old and still sleeping with the mother he adopted. In the morning, he uses his paw as a soft alarm clock to wake her or to announce a fur ball ‘accident’. Then like a gentleman, he leads her to the ‘accident’ or his food dish. But don’t let that fool you for a moment. He is a cat and lets Chris hold him according to his desires, before wiggling free when he deems their cuddle session over.
Like most
felines, he is nocturnal and zooms around the house. Some nights, he changes his cat nap location several times. He starts on her bed, then opens the hallway linen closet and curls up on clean sheets and sleeps the rest of the night away
