Kindling, Carrot Sticks and Kidschool…
For almost fifteen years now my family has used a wood burning stove to help heat our house. It’s been quite the science experiment for my kids. Different types of wood, different materials, shapes and sizes and arrangements of kindling,
different adjustments of the damper, even wind conditions outside–all these affect their success in working the wood stove. They have learned through trial and error–and the frustration or approval of their family members–what makes a good fire.
Every once in a while the conditions have been such that the fire was almost too good; it burned so hot that the iron actually glowed a little bit, and the stove was literally swollen from the heat expansion. You couldn’t stand more than ten feet from it without being uncomfortably warm. But as intense as that fire was, the memory of it won’t heat my home right now. The stove only burns as warm as the fire we build today.
Getting out of My Rut
I had an epiphany yesterday about wood stoves and warmth–if a little bit more metaphysical than the reading on the thermostat. I was pondering about the struggle I’ve had of late getting off my personal conveyor belt. Not with TJEd, you’ll be glad to know; but I’ve been in a personal rut and have wondered in vain for several weeks how to break free from my habits.

What is TJEd High!?
TJEd High! is an online liberal arts mentoring service for youth aged 13 and up, and is designed to motivate and empower serious Scholar Phase study, and enhance and leverage whatever other studies the youth is involved in - whether it be private studies with a local mentor; public, private or charter school; co-op/commonwealth/Vanguard, etc.; online courses; etc.
Who's it for?
- Youth, aged 13-18 who are prepared to do weekly readings and discussion at a basic level.
- A "Super-charged" honors level with additional readings and mentoring content is available at no additional cost for students who want to challenge themselves to even more depth and rigor.
What Does it Cost?
During Fall of 2017 only, we are offering the following low introductory rates, secured for the duration of your continuous enrollment:
- $45 per month for tuition
- After first youth in household enrolls at full price, additional youth cost just $15/month per student, contact us for this discounted family rate
