As YHWH prepares to show Moses the pattern for building His tabernacle, He says,
"Tell the Israelites to bring me an offering. You are to receive the offering for me from each man whose heart prompts him to
give" (Exodus 25:2, NIV).
Over the next few weeks, we'll see the dramatic outpouring of gifts and talents by the people of YHWH. I am almost jealous that I could not be a part of this magnificent event.
Our family built a paper model of the Tabernacle, and we tried to do our best. (The model we used is included in this week's Torah portion.)
However, even with our best job, we just couldn't picture the magnificence of the earthly dwelling that was made for YHWH, so that He would have a place to dwell among them, meet with them, and give them all His commands.
We took a lot of time to discuss with our children the importance of doing all things
well, so that we can be learn to be "approved workmen who do not need to be ashamed."
Whether we are embroiderers for the curtains of the Tabernacle, metal workers for His Temple, or workers in His kingdom who are handling the Scriptures carefully (2 Timothy 2:15), we need to do our best at all things
(Colossians 3:23-24).
