Just as this passage tells us "she will conceive," the prophet Isaiah tells us of a virgin who will conceive and have a child, who is our Messiah, Yeshua of Nazareth.
In this week's Torah portion, try to take the time to go over to the book of Luke and read about how carefully Joseph and Mary obeyed the Torah after the birth of Yeshua.
Why is it so important that our Messiah kept every law perfectly?
First, the book of 1 John tells us that "everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness" (1 John 3:4, NIV). If Yeshua had broken even the smallest "jot and tittle" of the Torah, he would have had to die for his own sin, not for our sin.
However, in Matthew 5:17-18 Yeshua tells us, "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished."
1 John continues, "But you know that he [Yeshua] appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin." Hallelujah! What a Savior!
"No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him. Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. He who does what is
right is righteous, just as he is righteous" (1 John 3:5-7).
Just as uncleanness should be quickly removed from wherever it is found and sent far away from us, so that it does not spread, so we also need to quickly find all sin in our lives and ruthlessly get rid of it.
