Income
Help me again? The recent Federal employment report shows hospitality and tourism has the highest number of new jobs. They need us which is probably why incomes seem to be increasing.
I’m developing a data base of realistic, updated expected income for tours, student tours, Alaska guides and Td’s, step on guides, DMCs, travel directors on incentives and meetings etc. I know there’s a wide range. I think this will help us
and employers.
What is your experience with recent salaries, gratuities, daily rates etc.? Per diems? If it’s local work, let me know
the location.
You can name companies and or not. I’ll keep your name and the employer’s name private. I'll only share the employer with their permission.
Benefits? Any new companies adding benefits?
Hit “reply” on this email and let me know.
Thank you!
Meetings and Incentives
Interested in working with meetings and incentives?
Meeting planners and destination management companies will be getting busy again right after the New Year. They are all looking for new staff throughout the US.
DMC’s in Southern California are all looking for new staff and the average rate of $25 per hour with a 5 hour minimum is now closer to $30 per hour.
Destination Concepts Inc., DCI, now has a 6 hour minimum in OC with mileage from home and back (.625
per mile). Los Angeles has an 8 hour minimum. That means even if your work only a couple hours in LA, you’ll still get paid for eight hours plus mileage from home and back.
If you live in states with ‘lower cost of living’, the DMC’s may pay less but are probably up higher now.
**If you live in Southern California and you’re interested in working for
Destination Concepts Inc, contact them and use my name. They are offering a $50 finder’s fee for recommending new staff. :-)

Interview with Dieter Schneider
Earlier this year I interviewed Dieter Schneider for my Travel Summit. Dieter is a colleague,
friend and expert in the meeting and incentive market. Dieter discusses a wide variety of careers and I think he’s done them all! I hope you enjoy the interview and find it helpful.

Washington DC Training
Interested in leading student tours in
Washington DC this spring? Student Leaders from around the US will be spending the spring in DC leading tours. It can be fun, challenging and a great way to network with fellow tour directors. This may be very
helpful training!
