    What I’m Reading

    • The Art of Possibility by Ben and Rosamund Zander.  Ben has been the long time conductor of the Boston Philharmonic and Rosamund is an executive coach and family therapist.  The title of the book says it all - the Zanders are masters of seeing through to what is possible and bring passion and new perspective to any situation.  A great read to break you out of any creative or performance rut.  "The frames our minds create define-and confine-what we perceive to be possible. Every problem, every dilemma, every dead end we find ourselves facing in life, only appears unsolvable inside a particular frame or point of view. Enlarge the box, or create another frame around the data, and problems vanish, while new opportunities appear. This practice we refer to by the catchphrase, it's all invented, is the most fundamental of all the practices we present in this book. When you bring to mind it's all invented, you remember that it's all a story you tell-not just some of it, but all of it. And remember, too, that every story you tell is founded on a network of hidden assumptions. If you learn to notice and distinguish these stories, you will be able to break through the barriers of any "box" that contains unwanted conditions and create other conditions or narratives that support the life you envision for yourself and those around you. We do not mean that you can just make anything up and have it magically appear. We mean that you can shift the framework to one whose underlying assumptions allow for the conditions you desire. Let your thoughts and actions spring from the new framework and see what happens."

A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of A Course in Miracles - If you haven't had a chance to read something by Marianne Williamson or if you haven't encountered a Course in Miracles, then this is probably the best book to start with.  She's writes wonderfully and makes complex concepts very accessible.  Very uplifting for these times (and always...).  "A Course in Miracles says that only love is real: "The opposite of love is fear, but what is all-encompassing can have no opposite." When we think with love, we are literally co-creating with God. And when we're not thinking with love, since only love is real, then we're actually not thinking at all. We're hallucinating. And that's what this world is: a mass hallucination, where fear seems more real than love. Fear is an illusion. Our craziness, paranoia, anxiety and trauma are literally all imagined. That is not to say they don't exist for us as human beings. They do. But our fear is not our ultimate reality and it does not replace the truth of who we really are. Our love, which is our real self, doesn't die, but merely goes underground."
