Well, we're half way through July, I hope your enjoying your summer. In this issue you
'll find an article to help you with your relationships, and while it's
geared towards teens I think the advice will work with all relationships. There are also tips for saving money while dinning out and a tip to help you save money and prepare for school and November all at the same time.

Breaking the Cycle of Criticism

It's been a while since I've done a relationship article. I ran across this and as it is something that I've struggled with it may resonate with you as well. I think this is especially important if you homeschool your children. Since we are in teacher mode for a good chunk of the day, we tend to correct all the time. We need to make sure we are affirming our children often. If I could have a do over this is one I'd want to do over. In his article Break the Cycle of Criticism, Mark Gregston also addresses how our past can contribute to our negative responses towards our children. If criticism is or was a part of your life, I hope you'll read this article. Then, don't beat yourself up for what you could have done better but start today to and encourage your children, spouse and friends, and let them know you love them.

Who Said Dates Need to Be Expensive?

Need a cheap date nite? Sign-up for Chili's emails and get great coupons. Sometimes it's free dessert, or kids meal. Want to make it a family nite remember these other eating out money saving tips.
  • Split meals. The calorie counts on most dinners is close to or over 1000 calories, That's half your days budget or more depending on your sex and age. Splitting may not always be enough to eat for some men, in which case you could either get an extra side for less than another meal or let him have a snack when he gets home.
  • Drink water. For the cost of a soda out you can buy two litters at home. Have a cup of tea or coffee when you get home.
  • If, for some reason, splitting isn't an option make sure you eat the things that won't be as good as leftovers first such as salad, fries, etc. Take home what you can't finish, and have it for another meal the next day.
  • Losing weight? Ask for the take home container to be brought with the meal. Before you start eating put ½ in the container so you won't be tempted to overeat.

Back to School Sales

Ugg and yeah all at the same time. Ugg, who wants to think about school, it's still summer. Yeah, its a great way to save money on school and charitable giving. We fill shoeboxes every year for Samaritans Purse. One of the suggested items is school supplies. In some countries kids need supplies in order to go to school. If their families can't provide these they simply don't go to school. So, while your child may not be excited about school supplies, your shoebox recipient likely will be. Operation Christmas Child will explain this more in detail. There are other charities that collect school supplies for children who need them, if you know of any please post them on my website in the post titled Back to School & Charities.
