January 23, 2024 Good morning, Leading the News . . . Trump seeks knockout blow in New Hampshire . . . Donald Trump is aiming for a commanding victory Tuesday in New Hampshire, securing a sweep of the first two Republican primary races that would make a November
rematch with President Joe Biden look more likely than ever. The biggest question is whether Trump’s last major rival, former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, will be able to eat into his margin or pull off an upset outright. Haley has dedicated significant time and financial resources to New Hampshire, hoping to appeal to its famously independent-minded electorate. Trump’s allies are already pressuring Haley, a former South Carolina governor, to leave the race, and those calls will intensify if he
wins New Hampshire easily. Associated Press Trump soars way ahead of Haley in new NH poll . . . The latest DailyMail/J.L. Partners tracking poll shows Trump has 57 per cent support to Haley's 37. Just 24 hours earlier, Haley was only behind by 10 points and had a glimmer of hope if independent and Democrat voters turned out to back her. On the final day the poll of 851 people was conducted, Trump had a 40-point advantage over Haley in
respondents asked by J.L. Partners. Daily Mail The poll was averaged over several days, but on the last day, Trump was 40 points ahead following the DeSantis exit. This suggests a possible Trump romp. Haley seeks to dampen expectations . . . Haley’s campaign had once claimed she could win in the state but tempered expectations after Trump’s decisive victory in Iowa last week. “I think we always want to have as many people come out to vote,” Haley told reporters during a gaggle as she barnstormed New Hampshire over the weekend. “We want them to show the power of their voice. We want to get out there.”The former South Carolina had for weeks jockeyed with DeSantis to be the sole
alternative to Trump, but she is at risk of losing that new mantle right out the gate. Washington Examiner Subscribe to the Culture Translator . . . Join 300k+ parents to get the free Culture Translator. Get informed about the cultural trends impacting your teenager's world from a

Trump
proposes to revive Reagan SDI initiative . . . Former President Donald Trump proposed reviving an ambitious space-based missile defense program thought up during the Reagan administration. Speaking at a rally in Laconia, New Hampshire, Trump promised to build a “state-of-the-art missile defense system” that would cover the entirety of the United
States, dubbing it the United States’s own “Iron Dome.”Adding credence to his proposal, he brought up the famous “Star Wars” missile defense program touted by former President Ronald Reagan, which was scrapped due to the technology being out of reach. Washington Examiner How a Navy SEAL fell into the sea and died along with another trying to save him . . . Under the darkness of night, in the roiling high seas off the coast of Somalia on Jan 11, members of the U.S. Navy’s SEAL Team 3 began to climb aboard an unflagged ship that was carrying illicit Iranian-made weapons to Yemen. As Navy Special Warfare Operator 2nd Class Nathan Gage Ingram began climbing the ladder onto the boat, he slipped, falling into a gap the
waves had created between the vessel and the SEALs’ combatant craft. As he went under, Navy Special Warfare Operator 1st Class Christopher J. Chambers jumped into the gap to try to save him. It was an instinctive act, honed by years of training, one teammate going to another’s aid. But weighed down by their body armor, weapons and heavy equipment, the two SEALs plunged into the depths of the Arabian Sea and died. Associated Press US strikes Houthi
sites again . . . The United States and Britain carried out large-scale military strikes on Monday against eight sites in Yemen controlled by Houthi militants, according to the two countries. The strikes signaled that the Biden administration intends to wage a sustained and, at least for now, open-ended campaign against the Iran-backed group that has disrupted traffic in vital international sea lanes. The strikes — the eighth in nearly two weeks — hit multiple targets at each site. New York Times Looks like this is working great! International

military suffers deadliest day of the war . . . The Israeli military said at least 24 soldiers were killed when two buildings rigged for demolition in Gaza collapsed after militants fired at a nearby tank, by far the deadliest incident for Israel in the enclave since the start of the war. An undeclared war is festering all along the hill country that separates Israel and Lebanon. It involves nearly as many troops as the war in the Gaza Strip. So far it’s a largely static battle of missiles, artillery, bombing raids and stealthy infiltration. Hezbollah

Money Biden lying about billionaires paying only 8 percent in taxes . . . In the past year, in more than 30 appearances, the president has referred to billionaires paying about 8 percent in federal income taxes. The line is a key part of his argument to
impose a minimum 25 percent tax on all taxpayers with wealth greater than $100 million. That would raise about $360 billion over 10 years, the administration estimates. But if you check Treasury Department calculations for what the richest Americans already pay in taxes, you would see that the richest 1 percent pay in excess of 20 percent in income taxes and more than 30 percent in all federal taxes. Washington Post Sports Illustrated embrace of woke agenda blamed for downfall . . . Showcasing transgender celebrities, plus-size models and Megan Rapinoe on the pages of its storied swimsuit edition wasn’t the only reason for the downfall of Sports Illustrated, but it’s hard to imagine that it helped. The “go woke, go broke” narrative surged on social media shortly after word broke Friday that Arena Group, which operates Sports Illustrated for owner Authentic Brands, would
cut the entire editorial staff, a reduction of about 100 workers. Critics were quick to connect the 70-year-old sports publication’s collapse to the relentless leftward march of its annual swimsuit issue, a once-frothy celebration of female beauty that increasingly looks as if it were run by the Harvard gender studies department.
