Today we continue to celebrate the basics, because they are amazing!
Mosaic Moments basic dies have so much to offer. They are super versatile, meaning you can fit all sorts of sizes and orientations on a page. They bring a nice sense of consistency to your layouts, making them look polished and put together. Who doesn't love that? And maybe the most important... Basic dies make layouts a breeze to arrange so you can spend less time fussing over the dull stuff (like measurements) and more time enjoying the process.
And hey, even if you're a seasoned pro, the basics are perfect for mixing and matching with different themes and styles, so you can get as creative as you want!
Whether you're just starting out or you've been at this for years, squares and rectangles are always a solid choice to build your layouts.
Hint: If you don't have your Basic Bundle Dies yet, be sure to watch for our email on March 8th.
Using the Basic Dies Bundle (Basic Die Bundle A-E & 1" Grid Die) exclusively can mean that you can be inclusive with your photographs.
You almost don't have to limit the number of photos on your page. You can use
so many photos with Mosaic Moments® that you won't even need pre-made embellishments or pattern paper. Your photos can tell the story and embellish your layout. Note how Jodi used her snapshots of bright pink flowers on the page above. They add to the memory while also adding color and texture to the page.
There are various sized dies in the Basic Die
Bundle that fit the grid, plus layering sizes that cut your photos to perfectly fit on paper mats!
You can see the photo in the center has a blue frame around it, which is simply the edges of the mat showing. The mat was cut with a 4x4 grid size Basic Die from Set A, and the photo was cut with the smaller layering die from the same set. The layering die
is sized 3.875x3.875 inches. The floral photos were cut with the 2x3 die from Set C. The 4 large corner photos were cut with the 3x5 die from Set B. All of these dies come in the Basic Die Bundle. The layout is bright, fun, and interesting despite not including any intricate dies.
The Basic Die Bundle can be used exclusively to create a layout full of
your beautiful photos to tell all your best stories.
This Layout Features: 12x12 Sandstone Grid Paper (discontinued), and the Basic Die Bundle.
Mosaic Moments® started with the idea to create a mosaic design on a 1x1 inch grid. You can easily create a simple mosaic on your layout too.
The One InchGrid Die
is included with the Basic Dies A-E & 1" Grid - Colored Bundle, or you can purchase it separately. It makes your first mosaics so easy to do. Start with a floral photo like Paije did above. This way you don't need to worry about adjusting for people or places. The grid die will just fit over a 4x6 photograph. The die will work to separate your photo into 24 - 1x1 inch size pieces.
You can add an adhesive and separate each square with a gentle tug. Take each individual piece apart as you stick them on the grid paper, so they can stay in the right order.
If you are doing a section of 2x10 squares, like Paije's layout above, you can even use one floral 4x6 photo by using the top for one
half and the bottom rows for the other side. The grid gap is 1/8th of an inch and is just enough that you can trick your eyes into thinking it is all one complete unaltered photo - that's what we call "mosaic magic".
Try creating this simple, but exciting, mosaic magic with the One Inch Grid Die in the Basic Die Bundle A-E with 1" Grid
die.
Once you get the hang of using the Basic Die Bundle, you can experiment with the Layering Die Bundle to create interesting frames and mat combinations.
Dies from the Layering Die Bundle work alongside the Basic Die Bundle
dies. They do not fit the grid paper, meaning that the grid lines will be exposed if you don't use a Basic Bundle Die first. For instance, in the center focal photo of Lauren's three children, the pattern paper mat was cut with the 4x6 Basic Die (actual size . inches), the white mat was cut with the layer die from the Basic Die Bundle (actual size 3.875x6.125 inches), and then the photo was cut with the 3.625x5.875 inch layer die from the Layering Die Bundle. Without the Basic 4x6 Die, the photo
and mat would be hanging out in the center, unaligned, with grey grid lines showing.
On the other photos with the very thin mats showing, the white mat is cropped with a Basic Die, and the photo is cropped with a die from the Layering Die Bundle. The Layering Die Bundle dies are a great way to show more of your photo and have a thin mat to frame and draw
attention to that picture.
As you use your Layering Dies, they will become second nature to use and an essential tool for you to craft your pages.
