With access to healthcare becoming even more limited in rural Wisconsin, especially during the pandemic, we
celebrate today's nursing students who plan to return to their rural Wisconsin roots and maintain the well-being of our rural Wisconsin neighbors. In their survey of 130 rural hospital leaders nationwide between September 21, 2021 through October 15, 2021, the Chartis Group, a national healthcare advisory firm, revealed that 96% of the respondents indicated they are having difficulty filling nursing positions; 30% noted that issues related to nursing staffing have resulted in a suspension of
health services with 22% indicating that they are considering suspending services. Almost every respondent, at 98.5%, has experienced staffing shortages at their clinics. By providing scholarships to nursing students statewide, the WROF, Inc. hopes to address nursing staffing shortages and the ongoing challenges of recruiting and retaining nurses.
We recently caught up with some of this year’s WROF scholarship recipients who are pursuing degrees at UW-Madison's School of Nursing.
