Removing Plaster and Fiber Paper from Fused Glass

We've recently been looking at fusing with plaster forms, both in a newsletter and a tutorial.  One of the issues is removing the plaster form from the glass after fusing.  The easiest way to do this is to prevent it from sticking in the first place.  Here's a quick way to do that:

Here are two identical plaster forms:


Now I've applied kiln wash to the one on the left:


and fused:


and look how easily it falls out compared to the plain plaster one.


If you do have one that sticks to the glass, use a vinegar and water solution to clean it out. The vinegar breaks down the plaster more quickly.

This trick also works on fiber paper for kiln carving for a cleaner look:
