Update from Your RV Workers On Wheels Newsletter Editor

We added more solar panels to our motorhome this week. We had a full photovoltaic system that kept us in power through all but extreme weather conditions. However, we split it between our travel trailer in Alaska and our motorhome that we have in the Lower 48. That gave us marginal systems on both RVs. It is time to get the system built up again.

If your campground jobs covers the cost of electricity, you may find you have no need for solar panels. If you always stay in RV parks that charge a flat rate, so that other RVers are subsidizing your electric costs, then you may not benefit from solar.

A photovoltaic system includes solar panels, batteries, inverter, charge controller, mounting hardware, cables, and the connections to tie it all together and into your electrical system. We puts solar on our first full-timing RV back in 1992. It has saved us thousands of dollars over the years. And the freedom it provides? Priceless.

We have several articles on our RV Life and Travel website (that is different from our Workers On Wheels website) about our solar. They will answer many of your questions. If you have questions that aren't answered in those articles, maybe I can get Bob to do a follow-up article for you.

Wherever you are in your work and travels, we wish you joy and prosperity,

Coleen

Working RVer Tip -- Love What You Do (Or, at Least Be Happy Doing It)

"Autonomy, influence, and a sense of meaning are associated with lower stress and fewer work-related illnesses, regardless of hours worked." That quote is by Harvard professor and blogger Rosabeth Moss Kanter in response to a Gallup Healthways survey of 100,000 Americans on the overall well being of workers in various occupations. In other words, it may not be so much a matter of how many hours you work, but how much you like what you are doing and how appreciated you feel for doing it. This is something both workers and employers should remember.

Very Short Term Jobs and Gigs: When You Want to Move Frequently

By "short-term," I mean jobs that last hours or days, possibly a few weeks -- but not months. Some folks are full-time RVers because they want to move frequently. If you equate working a campground job for an entire season to being tied down, these ideas are for you.

Make sure how you write matches what you write. If your Work Wanted ad says you are detail orientated, and it contains misspelled words, it emphasizes those mistakes.
