Being unemployed is pretty common, often more than once in
a career. The reason someone is unemployed varies. Today, the Coronavirus pandemic has caused literally millions of people to lose their jobs. That gap in employment can make a job search more challenging. However, the pandemic has also caused most employers to be much less negative about someone being unemployed.

From knowing and remembering your value to expanding your network and staying hopeful, in this article Job Search Coach Dean Tracy shares 5 important points for you to keep in mind as you job search when you are unemployed.
A one-size-fits-all resume is a never-fits-anyone
document. Writing a resume without the needs of the customer firmly in mind is a recipe for disaster and a waste of everyone's time. If your skills matching the job requirements don’t jump off the page in the first 30 seconds, you are history.
Â
Today, you don’t write a resume about all the wonderful things you can and have done. You write a resume that addresses your ability to do just the things that the employer is asking for. In this article, NY Times best-seller author Martin Yate shares how to create a resume that shows how you fit the job's requirements.
If finding a (hopefully) "permanent" job is proving to be
too big a challenge now, consider a short-term assignment as a contractor. Contract/freelance positions are available across industries, fields, experience levels and salary ranges. They may – or may not – lead to a permanent job with the employer. However, they may be the “new normal” for the future.
Â
While a contract may not present the ideal situation, these jobs allow you to stay in touch with the professional world, pay the bills, and show prospective employers that you have remained active and engaged in the workforce. In this article, IT Job Search Expert Mark Feffer shares how to start freelancing.
