Now is the time to take action

at the county level in HI!

As Strategy Officer for the State of Hawaii Broadband Initiative Burt Lum knows about 5G in the state.

We learned from his recent talk that the 5G permitting process is underway. NOW IS THE TIME to oppose 5G at the county level. Anyone can comment.

Burt Lum’s presentation Thursday night lived up to its title (The Uncertain Future of Internet Access in Hawaii). Using typical marketing scare tactic strategy, he made a strong case for how Hawaii is falling behind in broadband internet. He said the survival of Hawaii depends on 5G (robotics, AI and IoT). He sees the Hawaiian islands as “The Nexus” of “next generation broadband” linking all surrounding continents.

He mentioned “possible health effects” as an obstacle to this goal but said he was unaware of any research on health effects. At this point an audience member interrupted him and said there are literally thousands of research studies documenting the negative health effects of wireless radiation. Later during his talk I went up to him and physically handed him an information packet on health effects so that it would be publicly documented that he is now aware of the health effects research. This was captured on film. An audience member asked if he promised to read the info and he agreed to. This was also captured on film. Hopefully it will make the final cut for the AKAKU TV airing. We will see…

Mr. Lum also said that Honolulu has 5G infrastructure installed in two locations. He said there is no 5G infrastructure on the neighbor islands, that what was reported as 5G at the Kahului airport is not 5G "to the best of his knowledge". He said Honolulu is the target area for 5G and it will be five years or so before 5G infrastructure is installed on neighbor islands. (Shall we believe him? Many of us agree that once 5G has a toehold here it will spread like wildfire).

Toward the end of his talk, when he realized that the room was filled with people who oppose 5G (and maybe 3 proponents), and when he was pressed with questions on how we could effectively oppose it, he said to speak up to county officials, tell them 4G is good enough for us, and also consider filing a class action lawsuit. He said the 5G infrastructure permitting process goes through the counties and is happening RIGHT NOW. I admire him for risking his job to go on record with such proposals. Point is: Contact county council members and Mayors NOW to oppose 5G! If you are a visitor, speak up as well.
