Real Live (Life) Impact
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is one of the most widely used and safest imaging modalities for medical diagnostics. Despite this, one of the major technological challenges facing the biomedical imaging world has been the issues created when a patient with metallic medical implants suffers the need (for any reason) for an MRI. Personally, we know people (and you might as well) that are impacted by this current technological limitation and while most implanted devices are accepted as safe for exposure to MRI fields, conditions may arise when there is ambiguity or no specific guidance can be provided.

We are fortunate to be working with people who are attempting to change this real life challenge. Real answers can be uncovered by modeling and simulating MRI operation using COMSOL Multiphysics®.

On Thursday, June 18, 2015 at 2:00 PM EDT, AltaSim will be conducting a FREE Webinar with COMSOL on “Simulating MRI Heating of Medical Implants”. This FREE Webinar will be presented by Walter Frei, PhD, Applications Engineer, COMSOL, and Kyle C. Koppenhoefer, Principal, AltaSim Technologies.

Abstract: During magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), metallic medical implants can concentrate RF fields and produce heating that leads to tissue denaturing or necrosis. Simulation provides a method of identifying designs that require experimental testing, allowing companies to dramatically reduce the level of testing needed to demonstrate the MRI compatibilities of their medical devices. In this webinar, we will present the use of COMSOL Multiphysics® for simulating RF fields, heat generation, and heat transfer to the surrounding tissue. We will include a live demonstration and a Q&A session.

We will be posting a full article to our BLOG on June 16th full of information on MRI technology, and the current ASTM testing standards. We welcome your comments and questions as this technology unfolds.

More to come...
