As a practitioner, I
believe it is your RIGHT to have a full thyroid panel done;
- TSH
- Free T4
- Free T3
- Reverse T3
- Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies
- Thyroglobulin Antibodies
I know it’s a challenge these days to get your full thyroid panel done by your General Physician (GP) or MD. But remember — your GP isn’t trying to work against you — they simply are not trained to look at your entire thyroid panel or their hands might be tied by the system they are working in (depending on where you’re located).
Often the reason is that it doesn’t change the way they treat you. They are trained to treat you based on your TSH and what is considered “normal”
ranges.
If you want a full thyroid panel run and your GP won’t give you a requisition for it, it may be time to find
a Naturopath who will, or offer to pay out of pocket for the tests. I know it may seem like a foreign concept to pay for blood work to all my fellow Canadians, but sometimes it can shave YEARS off of your current health struggles.
It can take up to 5 years to be diagnosed with a thyroid condition by going through the conventional medical system. By paying out of packet for the blood work, you could definitively know what’s going on with your thyroid.
If you bring your full thyroid panel to your GP and they see that you have elevated antibodies for example, they can confirm your diagnosis that much faster.
A full panel can tell you if you are struggling with autoimmunity like Hashimoto’s or Graves (your antibody results will indicate that) or it can tell you if
things are OFF.
When you work with my team inside of The Hormone Project, we can look at your blood work to see if we can catch things BEFORE they turn into a condition.
And if you’ve already been diagnosed, we share key lifestyle shifts, supplements, and protocols to help you manage your condition with lifestyle and nutrition.
We cannot diagnose you — that’s what your GP is for.
But we can look at your blood work and make the connection between how you’re feeling and what’s going on with your health and hormones. From here, we will do our very best to support you on your hormone healing journey.
