During Perimenopause, your sex hormones are changing.
Typically starting in our 40’s (sometimes earlier for some women) Estrogen begins to fluctuate wildly, surging high one moment and hitting rock bottom the next. This can cause heavier or lighter periods, longer or shorter periods, missed periods and symptoms of either low estrogen or high estrogen.
Progesterone begins to decline, estrogen and progesterone imbalances become more pronounced, and DHEA begins to decline. Your testosterone levels will also be impacted.
So, all of this is going on behind the scenes. But those are not the only ones shifting. Cortisol, Insulin, Leptin, Ghrelin just to name a few are also changing.
This means that YOUR MOOD, SLEEP, APPETITE, METABOLIC FUNCTION + ENERGY will all be affected.
And yet the number one issue that women think they need to focus on during Perimenopause is their body weight + shape.
And I can completely appreciate and understand that.
I want to look good and
I want to feel good in the clothes that I'm wearing.
I work in the fitness industry.
I totally understand that.
But you cannot focus solely on those things because you are going to make concessions with yourself.
That usually leads to doing things like
drastic dieting, over-fasting, taking wonky supplements, experimenting with medications that we really don't understand or know the long term effects of in order to see a certain number on the scale or in your clothes.
And you may not end up feeling any better on the other side of that scale, telling you that you weigh something less.
As you can see above, there
are a whole myriad of hormones that are shape shifting and changing during Perimenopause.
And these will impact not only your body composition, but also how you FEEL. They will contribute to your mental and emotional state and your overall mood.
