Hi
5 years ago when I was 39, I started to change the way I approached fitness and movement.
I knew I was entering my Perimenopause years and
while I wasn't feeling any major symptoms yet, I knew the way I was training had to shift.
This was one of my best decisions yet😉
I reminded myself that my hormones, stress levels, my adrenals and thyroid, as well as
my nervous system were all being impacted during this phase, and because of that, the results I felt from my workouts were going to reflect that.
What did I change?
- I traded in running for walking
- I started lifting weights only 4x a week instead of 6-7x
- I completely shifted my approach to movement and fully embodied cyclical living by swapping out my 75-minute+ workouts for 35 minutes instead
- I layered in yoga and pilates
- I created more space for rest
- I tested my hormones, gut and blood annually
- I broke up with meal plans and focused on
getting in enough macros and micronutrients
- I stopped restrictive Intermittent Fasting and started to apply IF based on the phases of my cycle, eating breakfast daily and taking complete breaks from fasting all together
Fast forward to now at 44, I move, nourish and truly take care of my body based on the phases of my cycle, my energy, and the seasons.
What have been my results along the way?
Improved muscle recovery, better results in my body composition, my brain health is supported leaving me feeling sharper and my metabolism, adrenals and ovaries gave a big HECK YESSSS, which means I feel more vital than I did in my 30’s.
Now all my actions towards greater health and hormonal vitality are aligned with what I need.
