Hi there friend,
The new year is upon us, I can’t believe we’re just over a week away from kicking off 2024. I swear I was just celebrating 2000. I
was fresh out of college and email marketing was just a baby. Most businesses weren’t using email to talk to their customers.
Here we are, 24 years later. Can you even imagine running your business without email? It’s such an important touch point we have with our customers.
How else would we be able to reach all our customers to tell them how wonderful they are (BTW - you’re all the best. Thank you for being an AWeber customer and reading our weekly newsletter).
In my experience I’ve found the beginning of a year to be a great opportunity to get people to join your email.
A new year represents a new beginning. It’s a time when people want to start a new career, eat healthier, get in shape, learn something new.
Life coaches, food bloggers, educators, creators - people are looking for your expertise.
Online marketplace sellers - people are looking for the unique products that you have to offer.
Affiliates - people are looking for your recommendations.
So start this year off with a bang by expanding your reach and growing your audience in 2024.
Here are just a few ways you can grow your email list. Some of these may not apply to you, but pick those that do and get your content in front of the people that are looking for something new.
Get listed in newsletter directories
Newsletter directories are online resources where readers can easily find newsletters based on their interests. These directories categorize and list newsletters, making it simpler for people to discover and explore content they like.
All you need to
do is submit your newsletter to these directories. To help you out, I’ve compiled a list of 16 newsletter directories for you.
Who’s this for: If you have a newsletter where you provide valuable, educational information to your audience, then newsletter directories are a great and easy way to increase your subscribers.
Ask your existing followers on other platforms
I always find it amazing when businesses that have an audience of
followers on social media channels, whether that be X (Twitter), Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, or any others, don’t ask those followers to join their email list.
Someone liked your content enough to click follow, why wouldn’t you ask them to join your email list? Social media algorithms aren’t showing your content to 100% of your followers, it’s more like 5%.
But email reaches 100%. It will take some time, but start asking your followers to sign up for your email list.
Here are a few tactics for different channels:
Here are some additional tips on how 10 social media experts grew their email list.
Who’s this for: anyone with a social media following.
Add your customers to your list when they buy
Sending emails to your customers is the best way to encourage them to buy from your Etsy shop again.
Think about it – they’ve already ordered from you once. They know your brand, the quality of
your products, and your level of service.
So, if you are not opting people who order from you into your email list then you're missing out on some serious sales. Sending emails to your customers is the best way to encourage them to buy from your Etsy shop again.
If you haven’t been opting them in, don’t worry, it’s not too late. There are still ways you can import customers who have ordered from you in the past (up to 12 months to be exact).
Here’s how to import Etsy customers to your email list while remaining compliant with Etsy’s terms of service. You will need an AWeber account to do this.
1 – Set up integration with Etsy.
2 – In your Etsy settings, select the list you’d like customers added to.
3 – In List Settings, customize the confirmation message. This is needed in order to remain compliant with Etsy’s terms of service.
4 – Once your Etsy integration is connected and your
confirmation message set up, reach out to AWeber’s Customer Solutions team and we will import your customers (they will still need to opt-in to your list through the confirmation email before they are added to your account).
Who’s this for: Etsy sellers or anyone who sells on an online marketplace.
