Rising Star Nonrated Practice Tournament - Sunday October 7th 10AM
Hello Parents,

BAC is officially opening the Milpitas Strategy-Games Club!!

Our very popular Strategy-Games curriculum will be featured in Milpitas every Saturday for 2 hours, from 11 AM to 1 PM,  right after the Chess club.

Location:  372 Turqoise St, Unit #4, Milpitas, CA 95035

'Strategy-Games' will teach games both new and old, some never before seen homebrewed games and some that thrived thousands of years ago. These games and concepts are taught in a way that inspires conversation, analysis, creative ways to gain the upper-hand, logical/mathematical concepts, and of course, is a lot of fun!  Milpitas Strategy-Games will be coached by BAC's Coach Jason and Coach Matt, with their unique, enthusiastic approach and expertise in both teaching and gaming!

As with all BAC Clubs, the Milpitas Strategy Games Club will use Drop-in scheduling, so there is no need to register.  Single sessions can be purchased at the door with cash/check ($30 for a 2-hour class), or may be purchased in advance from our website here: https://enrichment.bayareachess.com/clubs/register-online.  Siblings receive a 10% discount (online transactions ONLY)!

If you already have a Bundle purchase for the Milpitas Chess Club, or would like to take advantage of our "11 classes for the price of 10" offer, you may use your bundle classes interchangeably between Milpitas Chess and Milpitas Strategy-Games!  Come for one or the other, or stay for both!!

Milpitas Chess Club (9-11am) + Milpitas Strategy-Games Club (11am - 1pm)

Special Offer:  If a student stays for BOTH of the Milpitas Clubs on any given Saturday, Coach Jason will grant them a random prize for their commitment to learning!  The type of prize will always be up to the lead coach, will always be game-themed and will be handed out on the same day.

We look forward to seeing you there!

AND

RISING STAR TOURNAMENT - SUNDAY OCTOBER 7TH 10AM

Players new to competitive chess will get to play 3 unrated games against similarly skilled opponents in a mock-tournament, hosted at our San Jose office.  This tournament is usually on the first Sunday of every month, the next one being THIS Sunday: October 7th, at 10am

Where:  2050 Concourse Dr (#42), San Jose, CA 95131

This is the perfect 'first-time' tournament!  The kids will get to experience the same rules & etiquette observed in our rated tournaments. They will become familiar with how to read board pairings, witness the point system, perhaps be introduced to time settings, and have a chance to test their new skills in a more-casual and far-from-intimidating forum.  For those of you savvy on the terms: Rising Star events use a Swiss pairing system and are NOT rated (you do not have to be a member of the USCF to register).

How do I know if my child is ready?  Well, if they are comfortable with all of the rules of the game, strong enough to play a game through checkmate, and mature enough to handle a loss, then they are ready for our practice event.  Most kids are recommended to start this path after they build a little confidence and training, often after a single semester (or 5-8 months of chess).

Parents: The Rising Star Series is not just for the players!  First-Time Chess Parents will receive a seminar in an adjoining room while the kids are playing their games!  You will be introduced to what competitive chess is, understand the USCF (United States Chess Federation) and what membership means/costs, what chess ratings are, and become familiar with everything else BAC offers to help direct you on your new journey through competitive chess in a Q&A style format!

Bay Area Chess is always committed to 'Transforming Lives Through Chess'!  Please let us know if you have any questions.
