Brrrrrrrrring it! Tips for Surviving Winter

Ok, so this isn't the Tundra. But Montana winters are still pretty rough.

The frigid temperatures are hard on my skin and make my joints ache. So no, embracing winter is not something I've yet been able to do. But I have learned to survive. And if I can - you can too.

Things like upping my skin care regimen, along with changes in my diet and routine, have all helped make winter not just tolerable, but almost enjoyable.

Truth is , we talk a lot about suffering in yoga. (Well, that and pooping!) But do realize, the Yoga Sutras don't just give us insight into our suffering - but also, the path to happiness:

maitrī-karunā-muditopekṣāṇām sukha-dukḥa-puṇyāpuṇya-viṣayānāṃ bhāvanānātaś citta-prasādanam

Find peace and happiness through a kinship with your experiences of happiness, a compassion with pain, and indifference to negativity. // Yoga Sutra 1.33

As I shared with you last week, I set my intention for 2018 to cultivate more hope, happiness, and love - in myself and in the world around me.

Because even though I know, darkness is a part of living. And sometimes, snow happens. Neither has the power to steal my peace. We alone have the power to determine our own happiness.

And this alone should leave us ALL feeling very optimistic!
