An Undoing Project for us all

Hi !

It’s a steady rain here in Byron Bay today and thus, a perfect opportunity to for us to catch up. Honestly, it’s nearly the first time I’ve even opened my computer - which is good, right?

In the meantime, I've been catching up on some reading on the beach. ☀️ One of the books I’m loving is The Undoing Project. It’s the story of two behavioral psychologists, their unlikely friendship, and what they discover about how we make decisions.

Their research in a nutshell? Doubt is good. Doubt is healthy. Resist choosing sides. Resist certainty.

Mind you, this is a little mind blowing for me.

Because I’ve spent my whole life chasing down faith and learning to trust, that I don’t believe I’ve ever really given doubt its due.

So now, I'm ready to dive into my own Undoing Project. Questioning some of my own beliefs and behaviors to thoughtfully (re)consider.

And before I left for Byron Bay, I began this process with my practice altar. I stripped it bare and started from scratch. I had to ask myself, who/what am I choosing to honor through my prayers of practice?
Practice Altar
For one, my family. The people I love, including myself. But also, my parents. For it is their shoulders I have stood on. So I lovingly placed their pictures on my altar.

Next, I chose a statue of the Boddhisattva Mother, Tara - symbolizing a healing feminine energy, something I honor within me also. And finally, I hung a picture of Ganesh to remind me that obstacles are also the doorways to liberation.

In other words, my doubts. These questions I'm asking of myself and of the world around me. Troubling as they may be, herein lies freedom.

On Day 3 of my month with Dena Kingsberg, I happened to glance at her altar. And there, behind the candles, it is her happy family that adorns her sacred space.

I can't help but smile because I know - I am exactly where I need to be. Doubts and all.
