This week we bring you news of Skydio shipping its new X2 drone, how drones reveal things not seen before, and a must-see drone fly-through of the Mall of America.
Skydio Starts Shipping its X2 Drone
Leading US drone-maker Skydio started shipping its long-anticipated X2 enterprise drone this week. The
$10,999 drone is firmly aimed at enterprise users in America and has variants for law enforcement, military, and first responders. There is also an X2D version for military and federal agencies. Both variants have two available configurations. The first has dual color/thermal sensors and is optimized for long-range situational awareness. The second has only a color camera and is intended for close-up inspections of infrastructure assets, scene reconstruction, and small area
mapping.
Drones Find Everything from Boats to Sharks
Two news articles this week demonstrated the power of drone images to uncover things we couldn’t see before. First, in Ireland, drone pilot Anthony Murphy found three ancient longboats submerged in the River Boyne that snakes through the countryside north of Dublin. Ireland's National Monuments
Service, which handles historical finds like this, will evaluate the feasibility of recovery and restoration in the coming weeks.
And in Malibu, California, a drone pilot showed how many great white sharks are lurking off the coast of popular beaches. A recent flight revealed one adult and four juvenile sharks within minutes.
Must See Mall of America Fly-Through
Rally Studios, which was responsible for the viral fly-through of a Minneapolis bowling alley, is at it again with an epic fly-through of the Mall of America. This jaw-dropping video will brighten up your week.
