Sun Salutation Energy Challenge
August is the 8th month of the year and according to yogic numerology one of the themes of the number 8 (Air Element) is the use of the breath to draw in prana (the lifeforce energy) for core vitality. Now is the time to create a healthy habit for ourselves - a simple practice just a few minutes a day to replenish our energy. We use up a lot of energy in a
day and oftentimes sleep isn’t adequate to regenerate us. And so for that we can turn to yoga.
Working with the breath during yoga cultivates a sense of loftiness and expansiveness in us and replenishes our energy. Breathing is not just for oxygen. There is a life force energy that comes in on the breath to energize and rejuvenate us. That life force energy is called prana. The classic yoga Sun Salutation done in the morning, each movement coordinated with your breath,
increases your energy reserve for the day. The Sun Salutation also massages all your inner organs, increases circulation in the joints and enhances overall physical strength.
You will notice such an improvement in your energy that you will want to adopt the Sun Salutation as a daily healthy habit. Start with two rounds and work up to eleven rounds if you can over the days of August. It will only take five to fifteen minutes of your time. One complete round means working both the left leg and the right leg. Remember to coordinate the breath with each movement.
For those who cannot do the full Sun Salutation, there are some simple modifications that can be done.
