Hello again , I hope you are well? I'm getting in touch from time to time as often as our family illness allows, and so
here I am again. You are still welcome to contact me with thoughts and queries,
and I'll answer as soon as I'm able. I'm continuing to take a limited number of individual clients, so don't hesitate to get in touch if this is something you are thinking about.

Well I used to be, so I know what it's like to be a Professional Person Under Pressure! I was one for years, when I was involved with the management of older people's homes in a large local authority. I know how it is - you don't go into a role like that for the money, you want to improve the quality of care for the people you are responsible for.
And then you get rammelled up in staffing problems, rotas, paperwork.....how do you ever get through it? Then there was nursing - I was a student nurse long enough ago to remember with every bone of my body the 'Back Round'. This meant going round every patient in an old fashioned Nightingale ward and attending to their
personal hygiene. Nothing got missed. Everyone was made comfortable. The beds were tidy. You had a sense that everything was under control, and nobody was going to go without a drink or any aspect of basic care, as, sadly sometimes seems to happen these days. It was marvellous work - but oh, so tiring! How do you pick yourself up to just go round and do it all again? Ultimately it's a question of getting focussed on where your efforts will have the most effect, and to keep in mind your larger purpose. Coaching is one of the ways you can help yourself to do this.

Have you given up on your New Year Resolutions yet?
|
If you haven't then you are in an elite minority and I congratulate you! I don't know anyone who hasn't at one point made serious resolutions, only to have them peter out by February at the latest. This is why gyms do so well - people sign up in January and
then stop going! But what if we knew that we can always start NOW? The present moment is all that we have. The past has gone, and although it may influence us, we cannot change it. The future hasn't quite arrived yet, although we always feel it's just about to, and it is the actions we take NOW that will make the difference. Why not take a moment NOW to write down three things that you want to be different. Then think what will make the biggest difference to you, and what is one thing you can do NOW to progress towards it. You can take that first small step right now. You don't have to wait for the New Year crowds!

Other things I'm still doing...
|
- While we're thinking about resolutions, let's think, why don't we carry on with them, when we know they will help us if we
do achieve them? One thing that makes it easier to stick with your plans is to have some sort of accountability, which coaches are really good at! With this in mind, and knowing that Marshall Goldsmith, one of the top executive coaches ever, does this, I have been trialling an app that checks in with you each day, asking you to say if you did what you planned. After a few weeks it turns it into a nice graph so you can see your progress. One person realised that they didn't 'thank their
partner' as much as they thought, and wrote it all down in a Valentine's card. It made a huge difference to the relationship. I'll be saying more about this in the future and if it rings a bell for you now, just ask me how you can use it too.
- As ever, the wonderful Harrison Assessments, which I described in one of my previous issues. The assessment consists of a short 'smart' questionnaire which indicates your traits, such as Optimistic, Authoritative, Influencing, and about 170 others. It's
also brilliant for everything HR that you can think of, plus individual career guidance and planning. Coaching is then based on this information. I'm bringing in Harrison Assessments to most of my coaching, which you'll soon see in my Shop. With my international partners in Paris, San Francisco and Perth, I can now offer this at a considerably reduced price - contact me for more details.
- I have several downloadable exercises and worksheets on my website here, to give you a taste of what you might get when you work with me. Everything else is in the Coaching Shop. Enjoy!
