Hello again , I hope you are well? I'm getting in touch from time to time as often as our family illness allows, and lo!
here I am again. You are still welcome to contact me with
thoughts and queries, and I'll answer as soon as I'm able. I'm continuing to take a limited number of individual clients, now booking into January after the Christmas break, so don't hesitate to get in touch if this is something you are thinking about.

I've recently been refreshing Sarah McKay's brilliant neuroscience for coaches course and I wanted to share some snippets with you, which may be helpful at this time of year. So here's seven tips and an extra, showing how neuroscience can help us lead a better life. - Both nature and nurture matter - it's not just your genes. Your environment matters
too, and a coach can be part of that!
- As regards emotions and memories, the brain is plastic, i.e. it is always changing, and we have some control over this, so that we 'construct' our own emotions and thoughts. The great thing here is that sense that we can change, that we do have some control.
- Memories aren't photographs - they change every time we get them out to have a look and they are not set in stone, nor particularly reliable.
- Emotions are essential for memory - they are deeply interconnected.
- Relationships really matter - love, care and attention can really help us to make positive change.
- Visualisation is powerful - you can even say that imagination and doing are the same for the brain.. This is why elite athletes use it
such a lot, and we can harness it in everyday life too.
- A lot goes on under the hood - so we may react to unconscious perceptions without consciously understanding the reaction.
And here's a really
helpful model that we can use to make sense of the many factors that impinge on our lives, and to disentangle those we can do something about, perhaps with the help of a coach. It's what Sarah calls the Outside In Bottom Up Top Down model,

To see
this in action, let's imagine I'm stressed about Christmas (surely not!). Outside in factors could be, who's going to help me with all the cooking and clearing up? Bottom Up could be, am I feeling physically well, am I short of sleep? Top Down could be, how am I managing my emotions around all this? Am I expecting problems or being positive? And then, which of these factors do I have control over? How does all this seem to you?
Other things I'm still doing...

As ever, the wonderful Harrison Assessments, which I described in one of my March issues. The assessment consists of a short 'smart' questionnaire which indicates your traits, such as Optimistic, Authoritative, Influencing, and about 170 others. It's
also brilliant for everything HR that you can think of, plus individual career guidance and planning. Coaching is then based on this information. I'm bringing in Harrison Assessments to most of my coaching, which you'll soon see in my Shop. With my international partners in Paris, San Francisco and Perth, I can now offer this at a considerably reduced price - contact me for more details. I have created some more downloadable exercises and worksheets on my website here, to give you a taste of what you might get when you work with me. I've revised the first one, about working out your
values and what needs to be in place for you to honour them. The second one is about Where To Start, when you know something's got to change! Meanwhile if you think of something else you'd like, for issues that face you right now, let me know and I'll prioritise its creation. Everything else is in the Coaching Shop. Enjoy!
