Â
Hi, it's Marion here,
Â
I wanted to let you know that I'm on the road. I flew from Kodiak, Alaska to Seattle, Washington to be with
family.
 Â
The purpose? To attend 2 memorial services and provide support for those coping with illnesses.
Â
You probably know what it's like to step off your "daily routine" tracks and walk on a different road for a while.
Â
This morning I'm in Troutdale, Oregon, typing at an old wooden table at the Edgefield Hotel. The hotel was built in 1911 as the county Poor Farm. In time, it fell into disrepair.
Â
Then, in 1990, the McMenamin brothers purchased the property to renovate it. (You can learn more about the Edgefield here).
Â
Family, friends, and bankers thought they were crazy.
Â
But the brothers had faith.
Â
Today, the hotel is a popular destination, blooming with restaurants, a theater, 100 guest rooms, gardens, and a vineyard.
 Â
Rooms,
hallways, and staircases are decorated with beautiful artwork. Like the stenciling you see above.
Â
I am so inspired by this stencil-art that when I go home on Tuesday, I'm going to design and dab our B&B bedroom walls with stenciling.
Â
The point I want to
share with you today, is that the McMenamins didn't ask for permission.
Â
They had a vision and they went for it.
Â
Do YOU have a dream?
Â
Is there something you'd like to accomplish, but something is holding you back?
You're worried about what your friends might think...
Â
You don't know where to begin...
Â
Or that things might not work out...
Well, you have my permission to just do it!
Â
Have faith because motion breeds clarity.
Years ago, a group of seniors were asked, "What is your biggest regret?"
Â
And what was at the top of the list?
Â
I wish I'd had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.
Â
I'll be back in the saddle real soon. We're checking out of the Edgefield Hotel now and heading to a memorial service.
Â
Blessings to you and your family,
Â
~Marion
