It’s been so muggy and uncomfortable lately. Most nights, my attempts to hang out here with a book and a glass of wine end with my making a dive back into the air-conditioning, the pages of my book and my hair limp from the humidity.

 

I’m thoroughly enjoying this evening though, and by the time you read this week’s newsletter, I’ll probably be out here Sunday morning with a cup of coffee and that sweater. 

 

I’ve been ignoring my garden for the past few days. So, naturally, a few plants have made their bids to take over. My scallop squash is now making a move across the path into calendula territory.

 

Tomorrow I’m going in with pruning scissors in hand and reminding all the vining veggies just who’s boss. Send help if there's no newsletter next Sunday.

This time of year, there’s always a sense of urgency whenever you head out to the garden. That zucchini has got to get picked before it gets any bigger. We’ve got to get these beans picked, blanched and frozen. Did you get the Brussels sprout seedlings in yet? The tomatoes need to be pruned again. 

 

Between growing and putting out fruit all at once and the need to do something with all that bounty, it’s easy to get burned out on gardening.
