Today's Podcast:
Over the last decade we have worked with thousands of women and men from all over the world who have been trying to include more plants in their diet, become vegetarian and/or support a healthy vegan diet. Through this work we have learned what many of the common challenges and concerns can be when switching to a plant-based diet.
The wonderful news is that most of these concerns actually have very simple solutions.
This week we’re going to be sharing our top five challenges we see when individuals are switching to a plant-based diet (or eating a heavy plant diet) and how to simply overcome those hurdles.
Here are the top 5 reasons people think plant based diets don't work
- They add to much junk sauces and artificial flavours. When adopting a plant based diet we need to let our pallets adjust and recover from the over stimulation of added chemicals, fats, and additives. Know that your tastes will change over time.
- They believe as long as a product is vegan it can be consumed. Just because it’s vegan doesn't mean to over-eat (or even use at all). Products like vegan cheese, sauces and oreos, when used in excess, can make a plant based diet very unhealthly.
- They rely on processed meals - Eating frozen vegan meals and meat alternatives can seem to make switching to plant based easier but in the long run it can hinder the journey.
- They don't eat enough vegetables and salads - We encourage you to eat as much vegetables and salads as your heart desires.
- The bloating from fibre makes them think this isn't the right diet from them. Bloating is normal when you eat too much fibre too quickly. Over time the bloating changes.
On the show today we discuss ways to prevent each of these habits from creeping in. Follow our guide to make plant based eating easy!
