Today, I wanted to talk about strength training & cardio.
Side Note: For those who are unsure what strength training means, it is a resistance against your body either with equipment or body weight.
This the age old question which one comes first, like the egg or the chicken.
Strength training comes first. Especially as you age.
Here’s 3 BIG Reasons Why:
1. Improves Your Body Composition:
Prioritizing strength training helps you build more lean muscle mass. This is crucial not only for improving your physical appearance but also for
improving your body’s metabolism. Muscle is metabolically active, meaning it burns calories even at rest, unlike fat. Leaner, stronger you.
2. Efficient Energy Usage:
Starting with strength training when your energy levels are highest ensures that you can lift heavier and maintain better form. This leads to more effective workouts and minimized risk of injury.
3. Cardio Post Strength Training:
Following up strength training with cardio can help maximize fat burn. After depleting glycogen stores during strength workouts, your body can turn to burning fat for energy during your cardio session.
Scheduled Training Approach:
We recommend aiming
for three strength training sessions each week. We can also help you structure how and when for your personal lifestyle, preferences, and goals; tailor specific to you! To make sure you are getting the most out of your time and training.
"Complement" these sessions with cardio sessions either post-strength or on alternate days, depending on your schedule and energy levels. You can do some within your workout, just get help with
how that should look. This balanced approach not only enhances endurance but also supports muscle recovery and growth.
