Nichrome Loop Making Jig

If you've been reading my newsletters for any time at all, you'll know I'm a big believer in making up tools as I go.  While I was making Nichrome loops for some jewelry tutorials, I decided to make a little jig to make things go faster.  I used chopsticks, tape and a screwdriver that happened to be the right size, and handy.

Start by measuring how large the loops need to be:

Then I taped the chopsticks the correct distance apart using my handy screwdriver as a spacer.

Next I wound my Nichrome wire in a figure 8 shape around the chopsticks.

Once you have enough loops, slide the coil off the chopsticks and cut into loops with wire cutters.  For staple shapes, cut down the middle of the figure 8.  For double sided loops, cut every other wire.

Look for tutorials over the next two weeks showing how to use each of these in actual projects.  Thanks for reading, and have a lovely week.  Next week we start tutorials with the new SQUARE bead mold!  Exciting stuff!
