Stainless steel ribbons are flexible stainless strips that can be shaped and reshaped to create custom dams and fired multiple times.  You do, however, have to make some little joints to keep the glass in, and to allow for expansion.  I've written up a new tutorial with two different types of expansion joints to get you started.
