The book is called Thrive and was written by Brendan Brazier who has been a professional ironman tri-athlete. He tried many different diets and ways of eating in an effort to decrease his recovery time and to maximize his training. He says that 80% of recovery has to do with diet and discovered that when he stayed on a plant based diet eating mostly raw vegan foods his performances improved and his recovery times decreased. His body was able to recover from the stress of his rigorous workouts quicker so that he was ready to put in more training time. "The result was astounding." He explains. Mango Coconut Energy Bars
     From the book Thrive by Brendon Brazier

3/4 cup fresh or soaked dried dates
1/2 cup chopped mango
1/2 cup ground flaxseed
1/2 cup soaked or cooked quinoa
1/4 cup macadamia nuts
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp lemon zest
Sea salt to taste
1/4 cup shredded coconut
 
In a food processor, process all ingredients together except coconut until desired texture is reached. Remove the mixture from the food processor; work coconut into it by hand. There are two ways to shape the bars: You could roll the mixture into several balls, or shape it into bars.
