Drugging Our Water? David Christopher, M.H.

“Drugging Our Water?” this was the battle cry for people who didn’t want fluoride added to their municipal water sources as a medicament. We don’t hear much about this anymore.  According to a newscast in the last century the altruistic dentists who promoted fluoridating the water should all be out of business by now.  Now that the dust has settled, we see that the cavity rate is not lower in fluoridated cities, and that maybe fluoride doesn’t prevent cavities. Interestingly we have more dentists than ever and they are all staying busy.  Just try to get an appointment at a reasonable time.

Let’s look to history when we hear some doctors (lipidologists) suggest that we put statin drugs in the water because they are good for everyone. Not all doctors are for medicating water systems or forcing drugs on unwilling patients. In fact, there never is a consensus in medicine.

There is definitely not a consensus on statin drugs, despite being the most popular drugs ever – racking up over 20 billion dollars in sales annually. These statins, such as Lipitor, Mevacor, Zocor, Crestor, etc. are a cash cow for big pharma. Statins are approved by the FDA solely because they lower cholesterol.  Let’s look at what cholesterol is and what it does for the body. Cholesterol is a nutrient that the body uses to repair cells, make vitamin D, construct hormones, and for the physical integrity of all of our cells. So, the FDA approved a drug to reduce nutrient levels. It seems that cholesterol levels weren’t as important to doctors until there was a drug to lower them. At that point doctors wanted everyone to take them. Well if they can’t force it on everyone, put it in the drinking water.

For the essential nutrient, cholesterol, you don’t even have to eat food that is good for you.  Your liver makes all your body needs on a daily basis. If you have enough cholesterol the liver stops making it. If you don’t have enough cholesterol your liver makes more.  How about that? The body can self-regulate cholesterol.
Statin drugs work by blocking the functioning of the liver. Administration of statins is based on high cholesterol levels. However, big pharma determined safe cholesterol levels.

If someone’s liver continues to produce cholesterol when their levels are higher than what is in the general population, then it is my estimation that their cholesterol is damaged and not useable. Therefore the liver needs to make useable cholesterol. The un-useable cholesterol is most likely damaged from free radical oxygens that are present in almost all processed foods. When you process cholesterol rich foods you render the cholesterol therein un-useable. This un-useable cholesterol is the only cholesterol that can stick to arterial walls.

So, the FDA approved a drug that lowers the useable cholesterol made in the liver at tax-payer expense. Also, some have proposed that statins be put in the drinking water for everyone.  So statins must by safe right?  Absolutely Not.

The most common statin side effects are headaches, difficulty sleeping, muscle aches, skin disorders, drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps and or pain, bloating, diarrhea, constipation, rash, effects memory loss, mental confusion, elevated blood sugar and type 2 diabetes.  Newer research lists other side effects, as rhabdomyolysis (a life threatening muscle condition), erectile dysfunction, coronary artery and aortic calcification.

Half of the people over 45 years old are on statins. Now they are recommending it for overweight children! Big Pharma also wants everyone on them.

Thank you FDA for approving a drug that robs healthy people of a basic nutrient and has side effects as long as my arm.  Beware of Big Pharma and all their accomplices.
