It's time for another lemon-scented, gluten-free edition of random musings and ideas!
  • Create a "Customer Suggestions" board where employees can write down  suggestions/complaints they receive from customers, then once a week or once a month brainstorm ways to make sure those complaints never happen again.
  • There is a word that supposedly only exists in Scandinavian languages meaning "happiness at work": Arbejdsglaede. And no, I don't know how to pronounce it. I find it interesting though that the Scandinavian countries are always at the top of those "happiest countries" lists and that they are also known for their inspiring workplace cultures, so maybe having a word like this helps? What word would you use or create?
  • A recent Harvard Business Review article listing eleven workplace trends for 2022 included this trend: Chief Purpose Officers will become the next c-level positions created in companies. 
  • Are you committed to quality? Vinnie's sub shop in Chicago relies on fresh bread from a near by bakery, so to ensure quality they have a sign that reads: "We close when the bread runs out!" Commit yourself to quality above everything else and you can't help but be successful at whatever you do.  
  • A Perrins/Tower study of 90,000 employees found the #1 driver of employee engagement is this: "Management demonstrates they have a genuine interest in me as a person."
  • Yes, "disco lunches" are an actual thing. Some workers in Stockholm, Sweden disco dance their stress away during their lunch break, often using underground parking lots to shake their stress away (I wonder if they brake dance?).

During the making of Schindler's List, Robin Williams would phone Steven Spielberg once a week and perform 15 minutes of hilarious stand up for him to help Spielberg release stress during an incredibly challenging shoot on a very dark subject matter. Williams would hang up after the biggest laugh without saying good-bye, knowing he had achieved his goal.

So, why not find a designated humor buddy for yourself, someone who can provide you with a laugh-line when you most need it? You could even create a match-making service in your workplace, where people can volunteer to be a shoulder to laugh on.
