Welcome to this month's Riding Diary newsletter. (May 2020)

What a difficult and frustrating start to 2020!

After all of the incredibly wet winter weather, I think everyone was looking forward to getting out and about in the spring sunshine.  But it was not to be.

Many event organisers and instructors have come up with ways to give us our horsey fix.

Missing Badminton?  Take a look at Virtual Eventing - the competition is on 7th - 10th May.  And it's raising money for NHS Charities Together.

Lots of people have been looking at groundwork and in-hand skills.  I asked my in-hand instructor, Amelia Poole, if she had any hints.tips and exercises that would be useful.  She has just put some of her training videos onto her YouTube channel Amelia Poole Equestrian.

Amelia is passionate about exploring and sharing the very best and most sympathetic ways to train, for the good of the horse and rider. It is important to her that the information is accessible and that as many riders as possible come on board and have access to an introduction to a new way of working with their horses.

With this in mind and during these unprecedented times, Amelia has put together a series of training videos which are free for you to see on her YouTube page - Amelia Poole Equestrian.

In-hand work Is something that all horses love and will benefit from hugely.

You as riders and handlers will also benefit greatly as It plays a huge part in the relationship building between you and your horse, as well as enabling you to see and feel from the ground where your horse needs help in their physical balance.

Amelia is also offering private video tuition where you can send in videos of up to five minutes long. Amelia will do a voiceover on your video and send it back for you to keep and look at as often as you like. These are discounted to £10 per five minute video and are a very informative and helpful way to train. Zoom lessons are also available

Issues with confidence?  Karl Greenword is running a Social Distance Social Club - check out his Facebook page

Lots of centres and are raring to go - they are getting ready to run clinics / events/ arena & course hire as soon as restrictions are lifted.  We'll let you know what's on in the coming months

kind regards
Jane
