We spent this past Saturday testing and evaluating cordless tool kits. Each kit had a circular
saw, reciprocating saw, drill, impact driver and work light. We took a look at 6 major brands:
Bosch
Dewalt
Hitachi
Milwaukee
Porter-Cable
Rigid
I posted a few pictures on our Facebook page and the review and
video will be out in a few weeks. Stay tuned.
This coming weekend a few of us will be traveling to Camp Allen in NH to finish up on some of the projects that the Build America team started. Should be fun - we'll be posting pictures to Facebook.
Keep an eye out for them.
Fall Home Maintenance
Fall is the perfect time to perform fall home maintenance.
This is the stuff that you need to do either to get ready for the winter or prevent future costly repairs such as roof leaks and rot and structural damage.
Follow this list and I guarantee you'll save thousands of dollars in
repairs.
Successful businesses don't last with only one superstar performing on all cylinders. A successful business needs employees looking for innovative opportunities, and seeking new solutions to old, recurring problems.
Here are some thoughts to inspire that creativity:
Ask thought provoking questions: Don't tell them what you think, instead ask them what they think.
Boost
Confidence: Praise good work, thank them when they offer something new, and let them know that there are no negative consequences for honest failures.
Explore Alternatives: Try to resist asking the same "rainmakers" or "experts" for solutions all the time. You might be surprised by input from other team members.
Like the business world, in the carpentry and remodeling world you need to collect information, and weigh options before making a decision.
Sometimes we get trapped over-thinking, instead of taking the appropriate actions, or making a decision. Here's three tips we use:
Analysis Paralysis:
Gather only enough information to make the decision. Avoid getting bogged down in stats and unnecessary
information.
Brain Freeze:
I have a painter friend that has "last-coat phobia." Meaning that he's never satisfied with the last coat and repeats it over and over.
Don't be obsessed with looking at every angle, instead prioritize the usefulness of your data. The goal is to look at what is relevant and applicable to help make your decision.
Get the Nerve:
Don't be afraid to make the wrong
decision. Sometimes people wait too long, making any decision at all, a moot point. Decide what is acceptable to your situation and make the decision.
