Insulated Door / Window Headers

With a continued focus on energy efficient construction we are always looking for ways to improve upon residential construction techniques. Insulated door and window headers are one way to improve on standard framing methods.

Installing headers that have even a small amount of foam insulation in them can be a huge advantage over traditionally framed headers. Foam board makes this a simple task and one that doesn't slow down the framing process at all.

Using Plinth Blocks
Plinth blocks act as a decorative base for door trim, pilaster or columns and are often seen in higher end trim work and older homes where the trim and baseboard intersection do not visually meet well.

Plinth blocks stand proud at the bottom of the casing, adding a reveal, and shadow line depth between the vertical and base trim.

Makita 18V Multi-Tool Review
Image
The Oscillating Multi-Tool [OMT] has changed the carpentry industry with it’s ability to quickly and accurately make cuts that in the past required tedious and meticulous use of utility knives and chisels. In addition to the time and labor savings these tools have delivered to the job-site, cordless models have made there use even more convenient.

Makita has a version on the market that we feel is worth serious consideration by any tradesman.

Hart Tape Measure Review
Image
Hart Tool is a name many of you associate with quality hammers. They have been making quality hammers since 1983 and continue this tradition today. Under new ownership they have also recently started expanding the brand into other tool categories while maintaining the same level of quality they are known for. We have extensively tested the new clamp lines as well as a number of their hammers and have been pleased with the results. The newest tool to enter the fold is a line of Hart tape measures. This line has been in Australia for a bit but is new to North America.

These should hit the US market soon, read more to find out why we think they are worth a shot on your next project.
