Spring Cleaning!

Hi Guys,

Last weeks newsletter came out of the Northeast where they were getting pounded with snow but this week's issue comes out of the Midwest. Today it is forecast to hit a high of 64F. That's unheard of for Minnesota in February. It has me thinking about doing all kinds of spring cleaning and planning. While it's tempting to hop out onto the lawn, some much needed shop and house cleaning/maintaining is on the todo list.

Also, we have been busy beavers with tool reviews here in the past week. In case you don't check the Tool Box Buzz site regularly or follow us on Facebook, there have been 8 articles posted in just the last 2 days including a new Head-2-Head article on gas/cordless framing nailers.

Anyone that owns woodworking equipment for their shop knows that rust is inevitable on the cast iron table tops. Let me show you how I like to remove rust from cast iron table tops and apply paste wax to keep them looking and operating like the day they were new.

Milwaukee 3-in-1 Heated Jacket Long Term Review

"What's with a heated jacket review so late in the season?!" While the timing seems ill conceived, this is a long term review. The heated workwear area is still relatively new. Almost every season has seen monumental changes to durability where the previous year's item is replaced with something more robust. When heated workwear was first introduced, it wasn't for the guy working out in the field, it was for the Project Manager that just stepped out of his warm pickup for the week's job progress meeting with the foreman and owner's rep. He'd click on his coat so he didn't get too cold standing outside in his khakis for 20 minutes (I used to be that guy).

Starting last season though, the jobsite durability all changed with the introduction of the 3-in-1 Heated Jacket from Milwaukee. It came with a tough, durable, woven outer coat with an inner heated hoodie. This offering is right at home on any jobsite. We know because we've been testing it for two seasons.

Gas/Cordless Framing Nailer Head to Head

The advantages of a gas powered or cordless nailer are clear regarding convenience, mobility, and safety. The lack of a compressor speeds up setup and tear down, not to mention one less heavy tool to lug around. The subtraction of the pneumatic hose also improves safety and accessibility for users. The disadvantages commonly expressed among tradesmen are lack of bump fire, need to purchase and re-purchase fuel, and maintenance. Click on the link below to see how these models faired against each other.
