On The Level - Straight advice from the pros
From the editors of Tool Box Buzz, Home Construction Improvement and A Concord Carpenter
Volume 88

Hi Guys,

Happy Tuesday!  In May 2011 I started the ConcordCarpenter Newsletter and in August 2015 I joined forces with Todd to create this newsletter.

The decision to join forces over at ToolBoxBuzz.com and decision to have a joint newsletter allowed us to better serve our readers. The theory was to combine 3-Websites together, and to get two PRO's wrapped up into one newsletter along with content from some of our other PRO's that write for us. The best part is it comes in one newsletter not two. In our book, less email is a good thing!

I'm pleased to say that almost two years later, and two reader surveys, tell us that were doing a decent job.

We still have more work to do, and while we can please some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, we know we can’t please all of the people all of the time.

We'd love to hear from you. Without your feedback we can't improve so please reach out to us once in awhile.

Whats New?

Like I mentioned above this newsletter is fed from 3 industry websites. This past month we've had several excellent articles covering the construction industry, some of them are below:

  • The NEW Makita 18V rear-handed circular saw,
  • DEWALT's 20V planer,
  • Home Depot's PROspective event,
  • DAP's NEW Dynagrip adhesive
  • SKILSAW's new Southpaw circular-saw.
  • Spring Cleaning and Maintenance Checklist
  • How to Control Remodeling Dust
  • Pareto Principle for Small Business
  • How To Build A Barn Door
  • Installing an Air Switch
  • /How To Build A Pipe Rack

Have a GREAT week!!

"Worm-Driver's" Are Gonna Love What's  NEW from Makita
Image

I’ve always wondered why, in years past, the East Coast uses sidewinders and the West Coast uses the worm-drive saw. One of the most argued tool topics in modern construction is the sidewinder vs the worm drive circular saw.

Whatever the reasoning, today there’s a lot of cordless circular saws out there but none of them come close to the worm drive in design or power, until now.

Makita has a new cordless cutting solution for framers, form contractors and carpenters. They developed a rear handled 7-1/4” saw and powered it with two 18-volt batteries. The Makita 7-1/4” rear-handled 18-volt circular saw is designed to cut the cord on a framing jobsite and offer a real cordless solution for worm drive users

Watch out for the "South-Paw!"
Image

Lately it seems that I’ve mostly been talking to you guys about cordless tools. Well, not today. As an “East Coast” contractor I’m accustomed to working with a right-bladed side-winder saws, but SKILSAW SOUTHPAW provides visibility that’s hard to deny, with the durability of a worm drive.

While I am mostly cordless on my job-sites, I ALWAYS have a corded circular saw in the trailer.

The SOUTHPAW is a lightweight, durable, and powerful cutting saw with unparalleled cut visibility. I liked using it, there’s not a lot of bells and whistles here, it’s a workhorse saw that will give you reliable service.

Installing An Air Switch - What's That?
Image

An air switch is a button that is mounted through the counter top that sends a puff of air down a tube when pressed. This puff of air triggers an AC power relay at the other end of the hose allowing 110V power to pass through the relay and essentially turning on what ever is plugged into it.

This is usually a garbage disposal but could be used to turn on toe-kick lights or something else under the sink / counter-top.

If you’re worried about flipping an electric switch with wet hands, DON'T,  an air switch is a good alternative. Today we’ll show you just how easy it is to install an air switch.
