On The Level - Straight advice from the pros

Volume 94

Hi Guys,

This past week was crazy. Most weeks for the TBB Crew are busy, but this week we hosted our third "Build America Tool Safety and Skill training."

We call it "BAM Training," and its comprised of 10 contractor-instructors leading a 24 hour, 2-day intensive program, designed to take novices through basic tool safety, basic construction theories, nomenclature, skill practices.

There were a lot of moving parts to prepare this training; from preparing architectural drawings, team logistics, building mock ups, set up our training barn, and 2-days of instructing. We could not have done this training without the help of Concord Lumber Corp, our local lumberyard, who donated employee help and materials. Milwaukee Tools also supplied the BAM Team with an amazing array of tools to work with.

All of the folks mentioned, made a substantial impact on the BAM teams ability to operate safely, be more efficient, as well as, productive at the summer camps they travel to.

I truly believe that their involvement, and guidance will impact far more than the 25 young men, but will indirectly help hundreds, maybe thousands of children and people with disabilities that will enjoy the BAM projects for years to come.

Thanks for all the support - enjoy your summer!

Why Build America?

The crew at Tool Box Buzz wanted to part of something bigger than ourselves, so we volunteered to instruct the Build America Team on tool safety and skills practice.

Build America is a six week, 25-member, team event traveling the country promoting accessible recreation for people with disabilities. From the construction of accessible amenities at camps to wilderness adventures with athletes with disabilities, the Build America team is dedicated to proving true human ability.

At the core of Build America is the construction of accessible environments and camps serving the disability community. In six weeks, the team will build accessible fishing piers, nature trails, climbing walls and many other amenities providing opportunities for campers to experience everything summer camp has to offer. Throughout the summer, the team will log over 4,000 man hours, save camps and communities $50,000 in labor costs, over $30,000 in materials expenses and impact the lives of thousands of people with disabilities.

Werner 2-in-1 Dual Purpose Ladder Review

The Werner 2-in-1 Dual Purpose Ladder was specifically designed for service crews, electricians and general contractors, to give them the option of a step ladder which easily converts to an extension ladder.

In my neck of the woods we call that a “Two-Fa.”

What Tools Does the BAM Team Use?

Part of being involved in a project bigger than ourselves means getting some good guys to work with you.  So in addition to this the 2-day tool and skill session we reached out to MILWAUKEE and asked them to help out.

The Build America coordinators are VERY budget conscience to maximize their impact on the community, so needless to say they were not buying the highest quality of tools, as each tool purchase meant less resources focused on improving the lives of people with disabilities.

Our friends at MILWAUKEE, totally stepped in or rather stepped-up as leaders in their industries to allow an organization like BAM to spend their time, effort, and money where it counts.

The generosity and leadership of Milwaukee will impact the lives of campers with disabilities across the country as their drills, saws, and hand tools build, repair, and maintain camp amenities for people with disabilities.

From the Build America Staff and us here at ACC we are truly grateful and humbled by your gifts!  Thank you MILWAUKEE!
