What's NEW this week?

Hey Guys,

We just got back from the Specialty Tools & Fasteners Distribution Association [STAFDA] in Austin TX. Big news from the tradeshow was Makita's 20+ new tool releases. Some of the Makita STAFDA highlights were:

Wireless Dust Extraction
Auto-Start Wireless System that uses Bluetooth technology for a wireless on / off powering between a tool and dust extractor.

18 volt X2 New Tools
The X2 tools are powered off of two 18-volt batteries giving you 36 volt power while not having to leave your 18-volt platform - genius!

Sub-Compact 18-Volt Line
You've heard it here first. We love efficient, lighter, more powerful tools. The trend for lighter is here and will not be going away soon. Makita's new sub-compact line gives you a 12-volt sized tool with 18-volt power. Who wouldn't want that?

Cordless Outdoor Power Equipment
The ability to do commercial style landscaping and outdoor work without gas, oil, and fumes is an appealing one that has people excited. From blowers, mowers, trimers, and even chainsaws. Makita is on it.

Silica Dust Extraction
Silica is the new Asbestos! Makita has taken a leadership role with a full range of dust extraction options that allows users to build a compliant dust system.

Enjoy the rest of your week everyone!

NEW - Cordless 10" Sliding Miter Saw - Review
Image

Makita has a long history in direct drive motors. This saws  direct drive motor is the most efficient transfer of power. Not suffering from slippage of a belt driven motor, a direct drive motor is typically associated with a more accurate, responsive and efficient cutting process.

You never get a second chance to make a first impression. My first impression using the Makita saw was how powerful and smooth it was to operate. This saw WILL impress you. From its size, power, up-front, easy access controls and intuitive usable design it will disappoint.

Makita 6-1/2" Cordless Track Saw Review  and Testing

Image
Seems like everyone wants a track saw these days. We feel that a track saw is a perfect addition to the carpenter, or woodworker looking to be more precise and accurate in their cutting and finish carpentry activities.

Track saws make long, precise cuts faster and better than circular saws. They are lighter, faster to set up and more portable, then a table saw.

The MAKITA cordless track saw runs off of two 18 volt batteries, and draws power from both of them at the same time. As far as the two batteries go, MAKITA, unlike DEWALT, stayed in the 18-volt platform.

Makita feels that if they can accomplish their task with one battery they will. When the task requires high-power, more speed and or more run-time, then they design their tool with [X2] two batteries.

We tested this saw in the field as well in the shop. Can you guys guess how many lineal feet of 3/4" plywood you can rip on one battery charge?

Was it.....

  • 400 lf?
  • 600 lf?

Makita X2 Chainsaw Review
Image

The Makita 18V X2 (36V) LXT Lithium‑Ion Brushless Cordless 14″ Chain Saw is a great alternative to traditional gas powered saws for professionals. Benefits of cordless battery operated chains saws include no emissions, less noise, and little maintenance compared to gas powered units.

Also its better suited for damp environments and requires no gasoline, no approved safety cans, but does require chainsaw oil to lubricate the blade.

The two 18V batteries power the saw with 36-Volts that allow the tool to start up instantly. No struggle with a pull cord to get the tool started. No noise when the tool is powered on unless the chain is engaged and even then there are zero emissions during operation.

Now that gas / oil / storage issues are eliminated we find ourselves using it more and more  on our jobsites!

Makita Cordless Router

If you’ve been a carpenter for at least 20 years you know that MAKITA’s lineage is with the carpenter and woodworker. To prove this just think back to your first miter saw, table saw or slide pack drill and I’d bet it was a MAKITA for most of you.

Who would’ve guessed, back then, that cordless tools would be as powerful as their corded brethren. Lately, MAKITA’s goal is to only launch new, cordless tools of they were equal to or better than their corded version.
