Hey Guys,
It's the time of the year that many of us are using temporary heat on the job site. This week Rob had a close call on one of his job sites. He lit the torpedo heater and then soon after smelled burning plastic. The heater was on fire in a spot that shouldn't be burning. Grabbing his fire extinguisher, it didn't work despite being in the green. Thankfully Rob and his electrician were able to get the heater outside, cut the gas line, and extinguish the blaze.

Let this serve as a reminder to check your extinguishers and always have them close. We usually just keep ours on our trucks but for big sites, that's not close enough. Also, Kidde recalled a number of extinguishers back in November. Here's a link for all the recall info. Check your extinguisher so that you don't find yourself in a position like Rob!

Last week, we featured Joe Canning's job site. If you want your job site featured in an upcoming newsletter, take a photo (landscape please) of your job site and send it to me. Include a little detail about what makes it special or unique. Maybe we'll run them once or twice a month depending on interest. It can be commercial or residential. It doesn't have to be of the whole project. If you're an electrician, plumber, carpenter, whatever send us a shot of the part of the project you're working on. Email submissions to [email protected] or message us on Facebook or Instagram.

Planning Deck and Fence Projects
Image
I know the calendar still says January and that it's been ridiculously cold the last couple weeks in much of North America. It's still a great time to start planning those outdoor spring projects though. That way when the frost is finally out of the ground, you can start building right away.

A deck or fence project can really help boost the enjoyment of your yard. Whether it be to build a gathering space for friends and family or a way to contain the kids and dog, a deck or fence is sure to bring comfort and joy to the family.

Last year I was able to install an underground dog fence the first week of March. Maybe spring isn't as far off as it seems.

Fireplace Mantel Makeover

The fireplace is often the most dominant element in any room it’s in. Replacing a fireplace is definitely a cosmetic choice but besides pleasing your eye, an updated fireplace can also add resale value.

When the cold winter weather months arrive we welcome interior work with open arms. This December we moved inside, to do a fireplace makeover for a client who was fed up with the old brick look. The house was built in 1976 and the brick fire place was original.

Makita XCV07Z 18V X2 LXT Cordless Dry Vacuum

A good dust control strategy is essential to being a professional contractor and keeping your customer happy throughout a construction project.

I’ve learned early on that capturing and controlling remodeling dust by keeping it out of the air and the non-remodeled area of your client’s home is often more important than the quality of your work.

Makita has come out with a solution to help cut the dust and the cord!
