Hey Guys,

Earlier in the week, Rob and Todd attended the Hitachi media event in Atlanta, GA. While the tools themselves are usually the highlight of these events, the new MultiVolt (MV) battery was the real star of the show. It is either an 18V or 36V battery depending on the tool it's hooked up to. It's completely backwards compatible with their old 18V tools but the old 18V batteries won't fit on the new MV tools. That makes sense because those new tools are 36V.

What's really awesome is that they won't be using the 18650 li-ion cells (most brands use) or even the 20700 cells (Bosch Core and Metabo). The new MV batteries will be using the 21700 cells. These are the same cells that are being produced in Tesla Motors Gigafactory out in Nevada. I'm not sure what the effect of having within the border the soon to be largest manufacturer of Li-Ion batteries will do to prices for power tools but I guess we'll all find out soon.

Oh and I almost forgot, our Dust Extractor Head-To-Head is finished and linked below. Check it out!

Build a Cowboy Cooler

I love backyard BBQs and for many years we operated out of a two Coleman coolers to store beer and soda.
While this worked fine, I wanted something better looking, easier to access and maneuverable. After seeing a vintage rolling cooler at a media event I attended I decided that I’d like to make one out of rough sawn pine.

New RYOBI Drywall Screw Gun
Image

Coming in March of 2018, RYOBI is adding another new tool to the ever expanding ONE+ lineup. The new drywall screw gun is back to their construction roots and makes a ton of sense to be added to the lineup. They’ve had a drywall router for years (the first one was blue), it’s about time to get a drywall screw gun on the cordless platform too.

Dewalt Mid-Torque 1/2" Impact Wrench

John Jacob Jinglehiemmer Mid-Torque, That's my name too! The Milwaukee Mid-Torque used to be the only tool in town in the "goldilocks" class of impact wrenches. Now there's a second tool going by the name Mid-Torque. We put it to work the last few months and were impressed by this strong and durable tool.
