Hey Guys,
Here at Tool Box Buzz, Concord Carpenter, and Home Construction Improvement we know there are a ton of really smart tradesmen/tradeswomen and serious DIY-ers that read this newsletter. This week's articles we picked knowing that the audience is well versed in many things construction and remodeling but maybe we
can hit them with a little something they didn't know this week.
For example, the simple plumbing drain. Most know it keeps out sewer gas by trapping just a small amount of water and sealing off the drain. It also keeps out bugs, mice, and whatever else may be lurking down the line in the waste system.
Or how about precast piers? They can be a quick alternative to traditional poured deck and porch post footings. Scroll down for the rest of this
week's articles and hopefully we imparted a little additional knowledge onto you.
They may not look like much but plumbing traps are the unsung heros of waste systems everywhere. In short, a plumbing trap is basically a device that retains a small amount of water every time a house fixture is used. That amount of liquid is what experts call a ‘’trap seal.’’ The seal prevents buildings from getting permeated by gases and unpleasant plumbing odors from the sewage system, while
preventing pests (mice, insects) from creeping into the building.
Last week we included an article about removing old tile, and this week we'll show you how to prepare a floor for tile. Having a beautiful tile floor doesn't begin at the tile shop, it begins with rock solid framing and subfloor preparation to insure your installation lasts for years to come. We'll show you how it's done in the link below.
Precast Concrete Piers are a great way to speed up construction for decks and porches. They can also be a great alternative to normal sonotube footings in wetter times of the year or an area with a high water table. Just dig the hole, place, backfill, and build.
Maybe hedgerows aren't as popular as they once were but I've seen an increasing need over the last few years for smaller hedge trimmers. A lot of people have ornamental bushes and plants that need trimming and shaping but not so large as to need a full blown hedge trimmer. Stihl has just come out with this new, small, battery-operated trimmer that's just right for trimming bushes and shrubs. Check out
our full review at the link below.
Rockler Woodworking and Hardware, known for innovative tool and woodworking solutions, has developed a new ceiling track system perfect for over work benches. It consists of a durable PVC track with "skates" that mount in the track. Multiple tracks can be joined together for any length bench and the skates roll effortlessly between them. It's a pretty slick
system.
