  The Anne Report

The Anne Report

Dear ,

My friend, Mary, is visiting from Texas. We have been friends for more than 35 years. Who could have known that a broken heart would lead me to an epic friendship? When my fiancé called off our engagement and moved into an apartment complex, he met a woman and introduced us to each other. Though he has long left the picture, this woman and I became friends for life. I am an honorary member of her family and when the head of the family passed away, I was there to officiate. We are like Ruth and Naomi. We are bound for life.

My grand twins turn seven today. I am so grateful. I remember my daughter being in Texas Children’s Hospital as doctors crossed their fingers, wishing and praying for the best. There were so many complications that she was a case study for many a hopeful obstetrician. My daughter, Elizabeth, kept holding to this picture of the boys, “I see my boys running around in the yard.” At that time, that was a stretch, but today, just as she pictured, those boys run around the yard. I do not think she ever imagined how dirty little boys could get or how many questions they could ask, but, all in all, we can say that they are a dream come true.

This week, my neighborhood became a community. Friday, Jim and I went on a leisurely walk and as we stopped along the way and spoke with neighbors, I felt a shift, I no longer felt like the lone wolf, living amid a group of strangers. In one magical moment, we all belonged to each other. There’s a neighborhood women’s luncheon that starts in June and I am Facebook friends with two of my neighbors. Yes, we are settling in quite nicely. Well done, Universe. Another prefect match. And that is it for the Anne Report.

Fun Rental

Wouldn’t it be great to have a fun rental store? We could rent a fun machine that would make us laugh. It would provide hours of entertainment. Maybe we already have that. We call them movies and comedians. We have sitcoms and variety shows, and the best fun shows we have are watching or playing with our young ones. We love to watch goats jumping, kitties, puppies, and hopping parakeets. It’s fun to watch sweet things that melt our hearts. Fun levels the playing field. When having fun, business executives and ditch diggers belong to the same class - the fun class. Fun wants us to willingly show up with a dash of naiveté and innocence. Fun asks us to be childlike. It wants us to get our feet wet and our clothes dirty.

Everyone wants to have fun, don’t they? Just like we want fast food, we demand fast fun - drugs, alcohol. They bring fast fun. Food, shopping, all provide fast, temporary fun. Oddly enough, those who seek fun are most likely those who have a tough time having fun. Fun requires the whole body. When we live in our heads, we cannot have fun. Fun is a body sport. It requires belly laughs and deep breaths. Fun requires us to drop our facades. What is the problem? Why do so many go through life partaking in seriousness and somberness? While there are many serious things in life, we cannot thrive unless we can have fun. We need joy, and fun is joy in action.

We are born okay, but when we encounter life training from our parents and other influential adults, problems arise. Transactional Analysis refers to this life training as scripting. All life scripting is limiting, but for this discussion, let us focus on what keeps people from having fun and being happy. It is called joyless scripting. Some refer to it as the no feel script. People who do not know how they feel probably fit into the no feel category. And no feel or joyless scripting is the scripting for addiction. Why? Because when we force a “feel good” action, through substances or process addictions (AKA behavioral addiction), we restore the connection between the body and the brain.

Once we notice that we are addicted to drugs, junk foods, or have process addictions such as buying, there is hope. Awareness gives us the ability to chose and take action. I discovered years ago the benefits of moving my body and of deep, intentional breathing. Other modalities that help restore the mind-body split are massage, all kinds of body work, dance, exercise, surfing, Do In (a form of self-massage), bouncing, and martial arts. Of course, there are many more kinds of movement that expand the lungs, oxygenate the body, and restore the mind-body split. And let us not forget laughter. Laughter may the best medicine for reacquainting our heads and our bodies.

I watched a YouTube video excerpt from America’s Got Talent the other day. It was interesting to see the judges’ responses toward a contestant. The contestant, who did not fully understand the concept of the show, had an unusual talent. His work is to teach kids to dance. That is what he did: he taught his audience a dance. Though it was out of line with the way the show works, one of the judges jumped in and had fun with it. The audience had a blast. Two judges sat still and one of them acted as if he was being tortured. The feedback from one judge was appalling. He was irritated. It was apparent from his reaction, that he was scripted for joylessness. He could not let go and have fun.

I once presented a session at a retreat. I had great time and most people attending were thrilled. A few days later the organizer called to say he had a complaint. He wanted to know if I was on drugs, because I was having so much fun. I was not on drugs; I was in my natural aliveness. Those who know me, know I can be quite the clown. I am often called the Minister of Mirth. I thought they wanted one workshop, but they had me billed for something else. When they introduced me, I started laughing because I had not prepared for the workshop they wanted me to give. I suspect someone thought a “rational person” might be upset to have to change in midstream. I thought it was humorous. I laughed when I started speaking. I went on to give the workshop they were expecting and just did it with no notes, or, as we commonly say, by the seat of my pants. It was an excellent presentation. I suspect that the person who complained was trained in joylessness. His or her natural honesty and energy offended his or her parents. When parents unilaterally squelch and curtail the emotional expression, and consequently the pleasure of children, they create the stage for joyless scripting. Incredibly sad.

When we spend our days sitting before a computer, watching television, or living a sedentary lifestyle, we can be sure we need a body-mind reconnection. We do not really need a fun rental store; we need to become the embodiment of joy. Though our minds and intellect are great, when they function without our bodies for long periods of time, our lives become serious and somber. Our bodies break down. Rather than reach for that beer, cake, or Amazon purchase, what we need to do is move, breathe deeply, or laugh, because when we do, our lives become EZier and EZier.

Join Anne’s Facebook Group

This group is a place to post uplifting affirmations and thoughts about prosperity and abundant living. Let’s create a right relationship with money so that we feel comfortable about money. Let’s use money as it’s meant to be used, and not as a way to accumulate power or to fill a void. We don’t need money to buy more stuff. We need it to create a world that works for everyone. We want to cast off old beliefs of lack and reclaim our natural state of abundance. Anne, AKA Dr. Money, posts a nightly goodnight video for the prosperity team, and everyone who watches those videos becomes a part of the prosperity team.
